I need to transfer my bank accounts and would like to move to an ethical, feminist as possible outfit...

Any suggestions?

Following as I need to move my account from Barclays.

EsmaCannonball · 05/07/2021 12:29

I would suggest you'd be mad to give out any information on your banking arrangements on the internet.

Greencoatblue · 05/07/2021 12:34

EsmaCannonball nobody is asking for account numbers and passwords, just company names. I'm security conscious but happy to say I bank with Nationwide, don't think anyone will be accessing my account having revealed that. I don't know if they're captured or not, I should check it out.

Who would be giving out any information about their banking arrangements?

Anyone can recommend a bank or building society. They wouldn't necessarily even bank there themselves.

CliftonGreenYork · 05/07/2021 13:02

First Direct for past 10 years and they are amazing. They usually win all customer service awards each year and are fab.

Do you hide your bank card when paying in shops too?
CroydianSlip · 05/07/2021 13:06

Sorry, yes, didn't mean to ask anyone to reveal anything they didn't want to!

I have long been concerned about what I'm supporting with my finances but have been lazy and reticent to disrupt all my direct debits etc. However, given that I cna barely if ever actually access a branch of anyone any more I'd be open to an online only company.

I just don't want to jump out of the frying pan into the fire so to speak!

I've opened a Starling account so all the dc can have cards for pocket money etc but again, I didn't look too carefully into their ethical stance. My current and savings accounts are with varying high street banks just due to my parents having accounts with them and that isn't a good enough reason.

First Direct have a Twitter timeline that definitely mentions Trans issues/days etc but doesn't mention IWD for eg. (There is a mention of DA charities, carers and Eid so it's not sole focussed)

If banks are going to use SM to celebrate certain characteristics or raise awareness of issues, then I do feel they should spread that across causes and not disproportionately focus on one particular group. Unless of course that is their focus and identified aim. I'd personally be completely accepting of banks not mentioning any of it and being as neutral as possible.

I'm maybe looking for something that doesn't exist, but a bank that supports women, mentions IWD if they're mentioning other 'days', helps women in business? Idk, maybe they're all the same.

I’m excited employee of fd and they definitely had internal programmes for mentoring woman etc but not sure that’s what your looking for. They were generally very open to anyone & everyone.

CroydianSlip · 05/07/2021 13:52

That's good to know, thanks! I've always had a general impression of them as being ethical and open.

I don't use them and can't vouch for any of their policies but Starling Bank was started by a woman, Anna Boden, and has won many awards.

Thought you might find this article super useful.
Personally, I’m a big fan of starling.

Starling seems to be one to consider. I am going to complain to Barclays but as I expect nothing from that I will be looking for a new account.

you know how Conservative for Women do those Thank you cards www.conservativesforwomen.org/women-say-thank-you

well I wish someone made ones that say:

I used to shop/bank/other service with [blank] and have left because of their failure to recognise women's issues, our right to single sex spaces and that rights are like pie. I am delighted to move my custom to you [blank] because you recognise the issue /or because you stay out of politics and just concentrate on service providing. I hope this continues.

Starling bank might think it is odd that there is a flurry of women moving their accounts to them in July 2021 and never work out why. It might also encourage Starling or whoever to stay out of woke band waggon jumping in the future. If anyone ever sees such a thing I would love to know.

CroydianSlip · 05/07/2021 15:29

There's a business idea right there Christina... You could be the card company!

Thanks for the link Feathered and info Monday.

I already have an account with Starling that I don't really use but it seems it will be really easy to switch to it from my Barclays current account. It says I can't switch my joint account though so need to do some more work on that.

Thanks for asking this question, CroydianSlip. I wanted to ask the same thing! Not sure how much better some are than others, but Barclays definitely need to get the boot now.

Anotheruser02 · 05/07/2021 17:37

I would like to switch from Barclays, does anyone know if it effects your credit rating to switch banks?

CroydianSlip · 05/07/2021 18:16

Yes BunShaped, I am sure no bank is squeaky clean but the recent negative publicity has just amplified concerns with them that I was being lazy and ignoring

OP posts:
CroydianSlip · 05/07/2021 18:16

I'm not sure Another, I can't see why it would?

TheSlayer · 05/07/2021 20:13

Do we have a captured list?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 05/07/2021 20:17

a short history of Barclays women-hating ads

Haricot · 05/07/2021 20:19

Are all banks signed up to Stonewall? I think Nationwide are
