Suffragette ribbon in the wild

Seen at legoland this week, tied to a fence by some benches. Perhaps I don’t get out much but I’ve not seen anything like that before, other than online I mean.

Love seeing these ribbons all over the country.

Waitwhat23 · 02/07/2021 22:23

The self appointed thread monitor crap is starting to wear extremely thin. Particularly given that threads seem to be getting bounced from board to board, seemingly at random, and often without the OP's knowledge.

Anyway, I have a few personal rules about where I tie my ribbons - I don't put them on memorial benches and I don't tie them on small business properties where the owners are likely to face backlash from TRA's. I can see where @Caramellatteplease is coming from and can also see pp's points regarding politics being where mothers are. I would have probably tied them near the Legoland entrance rather than in it but that's just personal preference.

In any case, it's always nice to see ribbons in the wild. Someone near me has tied ribbons very prominently to the trees in their front garden and it always makes me smile!

I agree that ideally this an amusement park wouldn't be where this would be found.

BUT

Kids are being taught IN SCHOOL that they're in the wrong bodies. There are kids IN SCHOOL who cannot express that biological sex is a reality for fear of social repercussions and some woke teachers.

So a ribbon with a little hand written tag in an amusement park seems rather tame.

CervixSampler · 02/07/2021 22:34

I have ribbons on my bag and after seeing this I'm going to start taking some out with me to post about on my walks. Maybe the laminator will come in handy to keep the cards from getting weather damaged.

Saw one in the wild in Stornoway a couple of weeks ago it gave me a lovely lift on a wet and wild day

FemaleAndLearning · 02/07/2021 22:47

I've bought ribbons, just need to get out and tie them up. I would love to see one in my local area.

ToesAndFingersCrossed · 02/07/2021 22:55

Thank you to whoever put the ribbons up in Peebles, I drive past on my commute and seeing them fluttering in the wind really cheers me up after an exhausting 12.5h on my feet ☺️

This is really inspiring. I would be delighted to see something like this in the wild!

Everything right with taking info on this issue to where mothers and parents are. It can directly affect all women, girls, mothers, parents, our own kids of either sex, our friends’ kids, the kids in our wider families, and wherever we live or work.
Pointing out resources which are anti-misogynistic, anti-homophobic, pro-safeguarding, pro-reality and pro-scientific facts is a public service announcement and an excellent thing to do!

PandorasMailbox · 03/07/2021 10:13

I have ribbons and labels and will be using them far and wide.

yourhairiswinterfire · 03/07/2021 10:18

@Deliriumoftheendless

You didn’t approach it?

Them’s dangerous I hear.

She's very brave! I've heard these ribbons will garrotte you as soon as look at you! 😱
MishyJDI · 03/07/2021 10:18

This perversion of the suffragette movement is truly disturbing. They fought for equal rights, not segregation.

Waitwhat23 · 03/07/2021 10:23

@MishyJDI I'm pretty sure the suffragettes would have been horrified to their core that men were now being included under the word women. Segregation is an interesting choice of word to use - are you to trying to call us all racists again? Makes a change from right wing, fundamentalist, etc etc.

Women won't wheesht no matter how much you try!

ArabellaScott · 03/07/2021 10:24

Some people have always found women fighting for their rights disturbing. The suffragettes were despised, ridiculed, threatened, attacked, imprisoned, etc.

TheSlayer · 03/07/2021 10:25

The suffergettes fought for women only spaces to free them from the urinary leash.

What do you mean by 'segregation'? We segregate certain spaces on the basis of sex and have done for a long time and no one had a problem with it?
Tinysalmonswimminginastream · 03/07/2021 10:27

Also, why about in other countries where women are campaigning for their own single sex toilets etc? Are they bigots for wanting 'segregation' as well?

yourhairiswinterfire · 03/07/2021 10:28

'Disturbing' Grin

I think it's fantastic that it's making a comeback.

Talking about 'equal' when the demands of rapists to have access to trapped prey trumps women's right to safety Hmm

NewlyGranny · 03/07/2021 10:28

They fought for the vote, Mishy. Good to see you.

I think Marion Miller was accused of hate speech because she re-tweeted just such an image of a suffragette ribbon on a fence - she hadn't put it there herself - and it was wilfully misinterpreted as a 'noose' rather than a loop, and as being attached to a 'tree' not a fence. The mistaken inference drawn was that the image was a death threat by lynching.

You have to marvel at the creativity involved in reaching that accusation.

We've been using loops of ribbon for decades now in various colours to support various causes, and this was the first ever to be labelled a 'noose'.

CrossPurposes · 03/07/2021 10:45

Suffragettes fought for equal rights for women and that's what this symbolises.

DialSquare · 03/07/2021 10:49

The creativity is off the scale with the TWAW crowd.

Deliriumoftheendless · 03/07/2021 15:25

I’d love to see Mishy’s stand up act.

Natural.

Thank you for posting that photograph. It has made my day to see ribbons in a location I recognise. I am occasionally in Peebles and think a trip there is well overdue. It all seems much more hopeful.

Gumbomambo · 03/07/2021 16:45

Who the fuck do you think won those “hard earned WOMENS rights” we don’t want giving away? Votes for women Mishy, watch Mary poppins. On the original topic. How pretty.
