Quite moving, imo. And listen to how important the space is from a community perspective for these women.

Thanks for the link, it's a very interesting video. I really feel for the woman, Adriana Meraudje, when she speaks about the pollution and the shrinking size of the mangrove forest. They can clearly deal with male interlopers via their local courts and fines, but the pollution issue is obviously something beyond their control.

BethnalGreenBambinos · 28/06/2021 10:49

I agree, FloralBunting - very moving, and heartening that the community upholds the validity of the women only space. The pollution is tragic.

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 28/06/2021 11:04

“This sacred place for women is now under threat.”

From the BBC.

Funny how the BBC recognises the very real tragedy that they risk losing this space because of pollution… while merrily enabling and promoting the loss to transgenderist ideology of equally necessary women only spaces here in the uk.

Fucking arseholes.

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 28/06/2021 11:05

Good to see you, Floral

ArabellaScott · 28/06/2021 11:16

I'm so happy to see you posting, Floral. Smile

ArabellaScott · 28/06/2021 11:24
  • and yes, I love the idea of a woman-only forest.

'when we're in the forest, we're free, as there's no men around' ... 'here, women confide in each other'.

Really sad about the pollution.

Leafstamp · 28/06/2021 11:36

This is a really moving video. What a beautiful and special place and so sad that it has become polluted and that intruders try to come in.

(Just an innocent question/thought...is there any reason this wasn't or can't be posted on the other Feminism board?)

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/06/2021 11:44

I loved that video. It really captured the different experience you have in a woman only space, it's something that's hard to define but it just feels different.

Honestly answering with no snark whatsoever: probably.

But I'm not very keen to submit to the gaslighty games about identity and 'approved' topics that seems to have prompted this bizarre reorganization. If the people who think that Feminism is about everything except women want the other board, they're welcome to it.

If this is the topic where we are permitted to discuss the realities of women's lives, and where the trans widows have been unceremoniously dumped, then I think my approach will be to treat this as the Feminism board, and speak out, support and encourage women here.

Thanks for replying Floral, I was genuinely interested in your thoughts. It's a tricky one isn't it? I think you're right, for something like this, it's nice to share it on this board.

I can sometimes be too keen to use things like that to try to persuade others who can't see the importance of female only spaces.

FloralBunting · 28/06/2021 12:31

Lol, sorry, am unwell, missed out a 'not' after probably.🤣

Fwiw, I do get that, but it's always helped me to view FWR as a consciousness raising exercise - I'm not posting to persuade trolls or MRAs that women and their rights matter, I'm speaking up to show other women they can and that they actually matter.

Stuff like this video illustrate very well that single sex, women only spaces are powerful and important for women on more than just a safety level, and I want women to be able to see that and have the confidence to seek out and value those spaces.

Leafstamp · 28/06/2021 12:39

Thanks for that wisdom. Yes, better to empower those who already believe in the value of women's spaces etc. And thanks to Maya Forstater, we know that we can empower and we can speak up.

Beautifully put, Floral.

And actually it does show exactly why this thread does belong in this topic.

We are fighting for our single sex spaces, for the definition of woman, for a lot of reasons. All of them valid.

Hear, hear.

DaisiesandButtercups · 28/06/2021 15:12

Your reasons for posting this here are well said Floral. Like others, I also agree with your rationale.

DaisiesandButtercups · 28/06/2021 15:25

Thank you for posting the video, it is important to hear these women’s stories and equally to keep in mind what we can do to reduce plastic consumption and keep our oceans clean and safe for all of us, for all living things.

I could totally relate to everything they said about why they value their women’s sacred space, despite being from a totally different culture and country. I suspect most women alive or who have ever lived could relate to it too.

1WayOrAnother2 · 28/06/2021 15:53

Thank-you for this.

I wish that there was a culture like that here. How wonderful to be so completely free of the male gaze for a while.

1WayOrAnother2 · 28/06/2021 15:56

Floralbunting what you say about your use of this as the feminism thread makes sense of the new division.

misscockerspaniel · 28/06/2021 20:19

"BBC Indonesia's all-female crew was granted permission to enter". See, the BBC do know what a woman is.

Exactly.

They know. They all know.
