The 'they' in this context is usually young Americans of a certain politics. They are used to the UK being much more socially liberal than the US so are surprised we are not on the 'correct' side here, but have no clue what happens in non english speaking countries.

Firstly if the police did not protect the women, those women were in danger. Secondly, we should thank the police. Thirdly, the TRA's buckled pretty quickly when men took them on.. interesting that they were happy to attack women for saying no but ran away from men saying no.

We are, which is why I think there's more pushback. I find gender ideology to be the opposite of liberal, it's very conservative in it's cementing of gender roles.

I'm so in awe of all the brave women across the world who protest.
