Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

The policing of feminist thought in the workplace - WPUK article (and used by the Times for an article)

Article by Lisa Mackenzie former policy officer for the Royal College of Nursing (RCN):

Almost two years ago, I quit my job because of my belief that women are disadvantaged and discriminated against on the basis of sex. These views had provoked a breach of contract investigation and an intrusive attempt to police my private activities. This is ironic given that my then employer was a trade union whose aim is to represent the interests of its predominantly female membership.

The Times have used this as the basis of an article www.thetimes.co.uk/article/nursing-union-hounded-out-worker-over-trans-research-fbr9ktk7j

I'm really glad that's in the Times I was really shocked when I read it.

the best way forward might be for me to reflect on my ‘values’

We have really fallen down the rabbi hole haven't we?

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 24/06/2021 05:53

Unions don’t seem to fight for women’s rights.

334bu · 24/06/2021 06:29

rabbit not rabbi. ... Blush

Thank you for sharing, and thank you so much for all the work you've undertaken. I'm so sorry you've been through this, but not surprised. What a misogynistic culture we live in. I hope you continue with your campaigning but totally understand if that doesn't work for you. I didn't have the strength to stand up to the sexist bullying in my workplace over 10 years ago. I really hope the tide is starting to change.

highame · 24/06/2021 07:36

stumbedin I just hope that the masses of sunlight being shone on this will make more and more people aware of the wide reach of discrimination, misogyny and down right bloody hate levelled at women under the guise of equality. The Unions couldn't wait for something like T equality to come along and if it hadn't they would've had to invent it.

At first I thought stumbledin was saying she was Lisa Mackenzie too, but having clicked on the WPUK link I think it’s that she’s copied & pasted the text from that page. Murray Blackburn Mackenzie do brilliant work..

Seeing it all written down like that... This is monstrous suppression of women.

GoingGently · 24/06/2021 07:56

Thank you for your work Thanks

They also have a garden that needs digging🌱

JoodyBlue · 24/06/2021 08:30

@stumbledin thanks for the share. I too quit my job over this. I could not cope with being thought policed. In these days of so much emphasis on mental health it is yet another irony, that being forced to accept lies at work is not on the list on "things to watch out for". It will be, if we stay sane enough to keep calling it out. Sunlight is coming.

RoyalCorgi · 24/06/2021 09:28

Yes, pretty sure that stumbledin isn't Lisa Mackenzie!

Lisa has done brilliant work and has been treated abominably.

Thank you for posting my blog @stumbledin (and yes, I can confirm that we are two different people!).

We posted a thread earlier today which explains the process by which I came to publish an account of my experience:

Thank you for your kind words.

How embarrasing. Blush Should have had an introductory sentene in my OP. (Note to self dont post late at night)

Of course I am not Lisa - but I just wanted everyone to be aware of yet another brave woman who in standing up for her rights as stood up for us all.

And also that the Times have picked up on it.

@MurrayBlackburnMackenzie - do you want me to get MNHQ to edit the op to clarify. I think they can do that ie add a line saying articel by Lisa Mackenzie?

I’ve donated to your crowdfunder, keep up the good work

Muddydoor · 24/06/2021 17:24

So sad. Just going back to work after having time off for my mental health and I’ve been informed that if I want to stay at the company, I have to go to thought policing sessions. But they really care about my mental health, of course...

Throckmorton · 24/06/2021 17:34

My god Lisa, that's horrific! Much respect for your fortitude in handling that.
