Maybe add a link? Posts with no links or quotes are very frustrating.

FlyPassed · 23/06/2021 09:45

Have you got a link please?

Doesn't go nearly far enough. But they have apologised to Jess de Wahl.

They got a pasting on Social Media.

Especially when it was pointed out they are happy to display works of a known peadophile and insestioual male artist.

Also: She's not wrong.

PurpleHoodie · 23/06/2021 09:50

*insestious

justanotherneighinparadise · 23/06/2021 09:50

It’ll do for me!!!

You let them come for others and they’ll eventually come for you.

GrownUpBeans · 23/06/2021 09:51

Are they offering to restock her items? Or will there be conditions? The wording seems a bit weazly.

AssassinatedBeauty · 23/06/2021 09:51

It's not too bad an effort, imo. They have avoided the "we are sorry if you were offended" non-apology, and they make it clear they have apologised directly to Jessica already (I hope this is actually true). They also seem to be implying that they will be open to restocking her art in their shop, which is a really great result.

DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 23/06/2021 09:54

I imagine her considering legal action helped to focus their minds.

highame · 23/06/2021 09:55

I think that's quite a good apology. What I really am delighted about is that this shows the amount of outrage must have been huge and must have far outweighed those in favour of banning Jess. It doesn't recognise the law in Maya's case but then I would guess they had legal input and that would have been unadvisable.

I would guess that many companies and institutions have been reviewing their SM and anti-women policies. This has been a real eye opener for some who didn't really know the debate was going on

ScreamingMeMe · 23/06/2021 09:55

Not bad, not bad at all.

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 23/06/2021 09:56

Have they rescinded their decision though??

Hazycoffeek · 23/06/2021 09:56

They seem to be apologising for not respecting freedom of speech which irks me as it implies she said something abhorrent, which she didn’t. I guess it was the only way they can avoid criticism from TRAs.

Did anyone get a direct response or acknowledgment from the RA after submitting a complaint to them? I didn’t.

ArabellaScott · 23/06/2021 09:56

That's a pretty good start.

Tesla73 · 23/06/2021 09:57

Along with the Maya verdict, Stonewall scandal, Hubbard this has shone a massive spotlight on the treatment of women in so called modern society today and the fact that these stories are all over MSM and discussions are actually being allowed is a massive turning point IMHO.

But also very sad that this should be deemed a victory in the so called free west of the 21st century

SirSamuelVimes · 23/06/2021 09:58

So long as the "discussions" aren't going to be "promise not to say anything about the female sex again and we'll start stocking your stuff" I can live with that.

GlomOfNit · 23/06/2021 09:59

I think it's a good one, for what it's worth.

Remains to be seen if JdW would like them to continue stocking her work, of course - I just read that article in The Times where she says the positive response to this whole shitstorm has been rather overwhelming and she's having to employ staff to get more patches made and sent out! (which is a tiny bit annoying to me as I was about to get some myself but I gather she's currently sold out. Grin )

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 23/06/2021 09:59

Oh I've read it properly. Bloody well done, finally

MarianneUnfaithful · 23/06/2021 10:01

Freedom of Speech is fundamental to any meaningful artist / arts organisation and should have been their approach from the beginning.

SnoopsCaliforniaRoll · 23/06/2021 10:01

Well, I'm glad they have made a public statement. It's a decent apology.

I'm sure this will anger the usual baying mob of TRAs and woke snowflakes though....!

SnoopsCaliforniaRoll · 23/06/2021 10:03

Exactly - they were shamed into making an apology.
GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 23/06/2021 10:04

Like the ‘no right’ bit.
Sense prevails. Wtf were they thinking!??!

JuneFromBethesda · 23/06/2021 10:06

About bloody time.

I hope that patronising little git Ed who responded to one complainant has us his nose thoroughly put out of joint - ideally with a formal warning.

GoingGently · 23/06/2021 10:07

Good! Apart from the absence of an immediate restocking of her wares without hesitation.
