Discussion about menopause with added assigned sex

Just no fucking need. It made my teeth itch. Amazing how the docs keep assigning the sex of female to the people who will go through the menopause.

Argh! I can't get past the first couple of sentences. Genuinely confused over what group "they" was referring to.

Stop mangling language you utter fools!

somethinginoffensive · 22/06/2021 07:21

And I am going through menopause now so it would probably be good for me to read a few experiences about it.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 22/06/2021 07:23

Maybe the docs got it wrong... maybe the menopause won’t happen because they put the wrong coloured wrist band on baby toffee all those years ago...

RestingStitchFace · 22/06/2021 07:30

An article about non-binary menopause... that's pretty much peak Guardian right there....

FlyPassed · 22/06/2021 07:33

Unreadable bilge

I read this self absorbed drivel yesterday.

This paragraph floored me.

Particularly in mid life, when some women want to remain femme and feminine, it gets really teasy and shamey and gross. Instead of acknowledging in an empathetic way, oh my gosh, I’m so sorry that you’re having this painful gender crisis, what can we do to help affirm your gender identity? it becomes oh let go of that, you’ve aged out of that, or whatever.

And the journalist conducting the interview talks about ’loss of many of the typical markers of femininity.’

So… menopause makes people what masculine hags? What ‘many’ markers is she actually referring to?

Siameasy · 22/06/2021 07:40

She sounds very immature-43 and non binary. Only in the USA

littlbrowndog · 22/06/2021 07:41

Now that is a very poor piece

I didn’t know really what they were talking about.

Weird just weird

JustcameoutGC · 22/06/2021 07:42

It is fascinating to see this new language develop before our eyes. So many new words and concepts. With this degree of imagination and creativity on display you think they could leave the words woman and lesbian alone, and come up with some new ones.

To be fair, the interviewee is non-binary, but it’s so clunkily expressed as to be unreadable! If they had kicked off with “HC is non binary and struggled with…” it would have flowed better.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 22/06/2021 07:43

You can be non binary all you like. Mother Nature doesn’t give a monkeys...

SiobhanSharpe · 22/06/2021 07:47

Annoying spellings, 'estrogen'. Mentions of paying out large sums for medical care too - very US-centric and not that relevant for a British newspaper's readers.
And the final line - 'this article has been edited for clarity' 😂😂

That immaturity would explain this advice. Aren’t they the person behind Scarleteen?

they were just a few weeks away from having health insurance. Corinna remembers this distinctly because of the roughly $10,000 bill that followed.

Fundamentally it’s a country that prioritises individuals, so ‘progressives’ celebrate Corinna’s identity but Biden can’t campaign on the idea that everyone should have equal access to healthcare because that would be far, far too socialist.

The strange thing is that in an act of reverse colonisation, people in the U.K. are supposed to swallow the idea that this celebration of individual identity at the expense of a coherent human rights framework is left wing.

BraveBananaBadge · 22/06/2021 08:18

"Coming at it from a nonbinary place, the opposite can also be true, so much of menopause has only been looked at from a gender perspective"

Oh do fuck off love.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 22/06/2021 08:22

I’m going to try my hardest to gendermale and see if the dreaded menopause just doesn’t happen.

somethinginoffensive · 22/06/2021 08:33

And the final line - 'this article has been edited for clarity' 😂😂

Oh, that's just fantastic.

I have just tried again and have questions about virtually every line.

somethinginoffensive · 22/06/2021 08:36

JF: And now perimenopause is fucking up my armor.

HC: For me it’s my swagger. My particular kind of swagger that I had was my strength. It was the way that I could carry myself when I was boxing. I looked tough. But now I don’t have my same swagger. Maybe I‘ll have a different one on the other side. I don’t know.

So, is she literally talking about the sport boxing? Or is boxing a term for something else?

toffeebutterpopcorn · 22/06/2021 08:39

Why discuss gender here anyway? It’s like me saying ‘as someone who likes to wear brown rimmed glasses... my menopausal experience is...’

merrymouse · 22/06/2021 08:55

@toffeebutterpopcorn

Why discuss gender here anyway? It’s like me saying ‘as someone who likes to wear brown rimmed glasses... my menopausal experience is...’
But how would you make the menopause your own unique self affirming experience if you couldn’t centre your brown rimmed glasses?
toffeebutterpopcorn · 22/06/2021 08:56

I changed my frames yesterday. Is this relevant / I didn’t know? I went for a tawny tortoiseshell with a slight dark greenish tint on the arms. Make of that what you will...

JustcameoutGC · 22/06/2021 08:57

You are peri. Deffo.
