For those who can't see the link:

Safe Schools Alliance

This is KS1 (ages 5-7) maths from
@JustLikeUsUK
for #SchoolDiversityWeek. What teaching/child development qualifications did the author have? This is political indoctrination & in breach of the 1996 Education Act.
Parents ask to see see resources & complain!

If it's supposed to be maths, perhaps it would be wise to start by teaching kids the correct grammatical number for pronouns..."they" refers to two or more people, not one person!

What is the world coming to?

Goldensyrupissticky · 22/06/2021 14:38

Working with ks1 children, I am fairly confident that a number of children will, while this is being read out, have decided to sharpen their pencil, poked their neighbour for fun or drawn a unicorn. Or told me their neighbour is called Harley or their hamster.

Are we sure this was written by someone who has met a child aged 5, 6 or 7?

Tibtom · 22/06/2021 16:38

Maybe the very fact of whether they can do the maths or not will be a useful indicator of the child's true gender. Grrrrr

Don't be silly - facts don't matter.

It reminds me of American evangelical Christian homeschooling materials. And of Mao's China.

Prodigy math which is an online math game that is used by a lot of North American schools (not sure about the UK) also now has questions which, while maybe not quite so bizarre, are meant to push queer theory/gender ideology. Like, "if there are 10 male, 10 female, and 0 non-binary kids in the class, show a fraction to express what part of the class is boys."

ScrollingLeaves · 23/06/2021 02:15

“SmokedDuck
Like, "if there are 10 male, 10 female, and 0 non-binary kids in the class, show a fraction to express what part of the class is boys."

Then logically you would think there could also be the question:
"if there are 10 male, 10 female, and 20 non-binary kids in the class, show a fraction to express what part of the class is boys."

If so, what would the answer be? I am genuinely interested.

SmokedDuck · 23/06/2021 03:30

I think the real question, rather than my paraphrase, used boys and girls throughout, rather than male and female, but I'm not sure I can get back to see it.

I don't know if that makes the answer any more clear.

NiceGerbil · 23/06/2021 03:48

That can't be real.

GCandproud · 23/06/2021 06:30

Surely if a child has the ability to read all that twaddle about pronouns (seriously do they really need to mention it twice?), they can work out the answer to the extremely easy question without discussing it for three minutes. It seems dumb on more than one level. And also surely you’d just write the number down as an answer rather than a load of stuff about pronouns so why make such a song and dance about it?

I’m also amused because when I was at school nobody even knew what a pronoun was (including me) as grammar wasn’t really formally taught, and now it’s ingrained in everyone’s psyche.

FOJN · 23/06/2021 06:53

I found this is the comments on the original linked tweet.

"Just Like Us - partnered by (among others) BlackRock, JP Morgan, Daily Telegraph and Pink News. Their Partnership Programme is sold as a way “to boost your performance on the Stonewall Workplace equality Index.” Corporate sponsorship that undermines #safeguarding."

I think intentionally causing confusion in children is child abuse, it's certainly a massive safeguarding issue.

Mathsisquitehard · 23/06/2021 10:09

If the wise children ignore the pronouns aspect of the original question, they can spend 3 minutes discussing how many bottles of water Harley intends to give to each runner.

It doesn’t say the runners only receive one each. Can they choose how many to have or can Harley impose Harley’s opinion on them?
