Look what Sharar Ali of the Green Party says ... maybe they aren't all captured

He tweeted: "My 7 year old asked me today, "Why do only girls grow up to have tummies that can make babies?" I answered it was a basic biological fact of anatomy & genetics & I could show him biology textbook when we got home. This seemed to satisfy his natural curiosity for now! #Fatherhood"

Oops, I misspelled his name Shahrar Ali

A faction of the Greens have been trying to get him out for a long time - I'm actually quite surprised they haven't succeeded.

HollowTalk · 21/06/2021 20:31

Oh god, that'll be enough for them to crucify him.

BlackeyedSusan · 21/06/2021 20:38

Gosh. That is not going to go down well with some people...

bellinisurge · 21/06/2021 20:38

He also tweeted: "Katy John Went providing reasonable approach to transgender topic of discussion on #r4today - against destocking authors with "problematic" views as going too far, accepts biological sex immutable & puts in plea for sex AND gender NOT either/or."

Just think how many votes they could get

Shahrar has a background in ethics. He acquitted himself well during L'Affaire Challenor and was a strong supporter of the investigation.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 21/06/2021 20:52

Shahrar tried very hard to reclaim the party during the conference. He perpetually put his head above the parapet to support women and is a thoroughly good egg.

Unfortunately he's one person.

bellinisurge · 21/06/2021 21:02

It sickens me that it's only the bloody Tories prepared to talk about this

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 21/06/2021 21:03

With some notable and actual brave exceptions in Labour

Shahrar has been fab for ages. He's got an uphill struggle, though.

TrainedByCats · 21/06/2021 21:06

He’s been consistent, if he had been appointed leader of Green Party I’d have joined (he isn’t is he? I’ve no idea who it is these days)

BoreOfWhabylon · 21/06/2021 21:10

Agree, he's always been on the side of sense and science.

TabbyStar · 21/06/2021 21:14

Shahrar has been great, others in the GP too, but lots more are either full on TRA or "be kind". The faction that took over GP Women seems to have done eff all since. Shame as the commitee was pretty active before.

With more sunlight (Maya, Jess de Wahl, the Olympics, various cases against the Tavi) some people are going to be realising soon they're looking pretty stupid.

WotgunShedding · 21/06/2021 21:15

He’s been speaking up for a while now 💪🏾

NewlyGranny · 21/06/2021 21:26

That tweet is gone now. 🤷🏼‍♀️

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 21/06/2021 21:28

@NewlyGranny

That tweet is gone now. 🤷🏼‍♀️
Still there for me.
NewlyGranny · 21/06/2021 21:29

And it's back! 🤔

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 21/06/2021 21:58

@TrainedByCats

Sîan "please never join, thanks!" Berry (she said this in response to a tweet from a woman saying she didn't want to join the Green party because the didn't know what a woman was) and Amelia Womack, IIRC.
CrossPurposes · 21/06/2021 22:13

The co-leaders are Sian Berry and Jonathan Bartley. Amelia Womack is deputy leader.

altforvarmt · 21/06/2021 22:44

He’s been a voice of reason for some time, and there are many in the green party gunning for him.

OhHolyJesus · 22/06/2021 09:11

I voted for Shahrar and would have stayed had he been voted in. I left after the conference voted down women's sex based rights. I know others who have since left, and others who are hanging on by their fingernails. I know the TRA Greens are getting what they wanted but I reassure myself with the fact that the Greens will never been a main contender in the first past the post system, even Labour won't see the inside of No.10 for years!

I think it will be years before we see any sense coming from the joint leaders, deputy leader, or from their national policy. They are all completely bonkers! I salute the green members who are holding on. The fight they have astounds me.

bellinisurge · 22/06/2021 11:19

We need to make sure we quiz Green candidates about this nonsense at every opportunity.
Every candidate should be quizzed, obviously. But people need to see the dangerous consequence of "protest voting" Green.

GreenieFingers · 22/06/2021 23:09

There are loads of us, all battling away against the members who wish to remove women's boundaries and our sex-based rights. The ones I have met are not exactly among the nicest people I've encountered.
We need more members, not leavers. I do understand completely why some people chose to leave. However, this fight was never going to be won quickly. As with the wider 'debate' Hmm, it will take time and effort and for this we need at much support as possible.
