Should GRCs be revoked if a male person commits a sexual offence & is sent to prison?

The granting of a GRC to a male is a huge statement of trust that you will ‘live as a woman’ If you then commit a sexual offence against a woman/child (in a male way, ie using yr male genitalia) should that GRC then be revoked? Part of prison sentence is deprivation of Liberty…

The current prison policy is bonkers, issuing GRCs is crazy but just like you can lose yr driving licence, might GRCs be taken away for bad behaviour?

Yes. Absolutely.

MoiraQueen · 20/06/2021 21:24

Yes.

YellowFish12 · 20/06/2021 21:24

Yea

OhHolyJesus · 20/06/2021 21:25

Yes.

I would also like to see it revoked for those who break the promise of the 'declaration'.

For example, promising to live the rest of your life 'as a man' and then doing the most female thing you can do, get pregnant and have a baby.

PersonaNonGarter · 20/06/2021 21:27

Of course. Use of male genitalia is not living as a woman.

Thelnebriati · 20/06/2021 21:31

Yes. And convicted sex offenders shouldn't be allowed to transition either.

Yep to both of these!
RedDogsBeg · 20/06/2021 21:40

Yes absolutely the GRC should be revoked, I'd go further and say ANY violent or sexual crime, ANY crime involving children including downloading or procuring or producing images of child sexual abuse.

Further under no circumstances should a man in prison for ANY sexual or violent crime be remotely considered for any form of surgery or anything else allied with changing gender and should NEVER in a million years be even considered for a GRC let alone be granted one.

Do a male crime, serve time as a male in the male prison estate and remain the male that you are for the rest of your days.

Other matters aside, I'm assuming you would propose standard caveats around conception through non-consensual sex/contraceptive failures/those who thought they couldn't conceive but have been surprised etc.
ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 20/06/2021 21:45

I'd question how good the processes are for diagnosing gender dysphoria and for granting a GRC.

Is there a robust process or is it just a tick sheet?

andyoldlabour · 20/06/2021 21:46

Well, that will be a yes from my DW and I.

PearPickingPorky · 20/06/2021 21:48

Yes.

It's one of many things which should cause the nonsense that is a GRC to be revoked.

PurpleHoodie · 20/06/2021 21:48

There is no need for the GRC now that Gay marriage is legal surely?

boydy99 · 20/06/2021 21:49

I agree, but isn't the gender ideology idea that the male anatomy is considered female/belonging to a woman when a man changes gender to a woman? newbie here but firmly GC!

I agree. But I foresee.that the same judges who give suspended sentences to trans offenders, because they might be mistreated in prison, would be reluctant to convict one if that meant the offender would lose their GRC.

I’m shocked that a GRC can be issued to anyone retaining male genitalia I honestly don't believe the majority of people realise this
GrownUpBeans · 20/06/2021 22:48

Good idea OP.

OneEpisode · 20/06/2021 23:01

The GRC requirement now is save your gas etc bills for 2 years, complete a fom, pay the fee (£5) and include two letters from people like surgeons, or GPs. The GenderGP outfit (Helen Webberley) will issue privately for £150.
Hormones or surgeries aren’t required. Alex Drummond doesn’t want either and has a GRC.

Yes, of course, rewording to - For example, promising to live the rest of your life 'as a man' and then doing the most female thing you can do, deliberately getting pregnant and having a baby.

I still think it's tricky though. If you have sex 'as a man' whilst living 'as a woman' how can the declaration hold up as being true.

Male violence and/or rape whilst living 'as a woman', well that very sentence sounds nonsensical.

Agree with this one. How on earth can you live as a man and then get pregnant and breastfeed. How do you marry that up with dysphoria so debilitating that gender transition is the only answer? Definitely agree with revoking for male sex offences, absolutely.

Other countries like Spain and Ireland are all avid for it. (Who have different same-sex marriage laws).

We need to lead by example.

Wholeheartedly agree with OP (whilst also thinking the GRA should be ditched completely).

NiceGerbil · 20/06/2021 23:14

I'm going to go against the grain.

The government having the ability to remove from individuals a legal status if they don't behave themselves is a very slippery slope.

Would pave the way for unilateral removal of loads of stuff for a wide variety of reasons.

With self id effectively being in place it wouldn't make any odds. You can change your name/ passport/ driving licence without a GRC.

I can easily see why it's appealing.

But I disagree.

RedDogsBeg · 20/06/2021 23:21

You can change your name/ passport/ driving licence without a GRC.

That should not be allowed.

Tibtom · 20/06/2021 23:25

The GRA should be appealed and GRC revoked for all. It forces people to accept a lie and that lie should be unacceptable for any.

PurpleHoodie · 20/06/2021 23:56

Tibtom Yes.

Regardless of any, and all, standpoints and beliefs; this is the best way.

The UK has accepted same-sex marriages.

No need for the GRC (that was created to appease a VERY higher class sub-set)
