'A person who is sexually attracted to people of a similar gender'Hmm

This was on a workplace forum thing. I am afraid I couldn't bring myself to get in to it at work, but really? Sex is even in the bloody word!

OP posts:

That sounds like it's out of the stonewall textbook.

I remember they deleted a tweet as it referred to same sex and so it went against all else they were promoting.

NecessaryScene · 18/06/2021 19:15

And "similar"?

Grin Grin Grin Grin

Siblingquandary · 18/06/2021 19:17

Hmmm

I've never heard of similissexuality before.

Will it be getting a new stripe on the flag?

Wonder what colour they'll go for

YourSexNotGenderIsOnFire · 18/06/2021 19:26

You might want to remind them of the definition in the Equality Act 2010 - you know, that law that employers are supposed to understand and comply with...

NiceGerbil · 18/06/2021 19:30

Similar!

Things just don't stop moving do they.

Language is on a fluid spectrum it seems.

FlyPassed · 18/06/2021 19:47

I complained last week because this wording turned up on the intranet at work. I searched it and it was a copy and paste from lgbt wiki. If this one annoyed you I don't recommend looking at their definition of lesbian Confused

Whatsnewpussyhat · 18/06/2021 20:48

I've also seen an increasing use of the word sexuality instead of sexual orientation too, because sexuality is very vague and could mean anything other than same sex attraction.

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/06/2021 20:52

similissexuality

Try saying that three times fast!

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 18/06/2021 20:55

Gender. Tch.

If people were attracted to gender, porn subs on reddit wouldn't specify that they were for pictures of biological females only.

And men would have always needed the images in porn magazines to be labelled with text clarifying the subjects' preferred pronouns before they could get an erection.

NiceGerbil · 18/06/2021 20:58

Well quite.

I'll believe that this gender is more important than sex when a man looking for lesbian porn is presented with 2 males and is not surprised and feels that's just what he wanted to watch.

334bu · 18/06/2021 21:00

Complain to HR that people are posting homophobic content on a workplace forum.
To imply that a same sex attracted person should consider a relationship with someone of the opposite sex is blatant homophobia and smacks of the attitude of those that consider that the " corrective" rape of lesbians will make them " straight"

Siblingquandary · 18/06/2021 21:01

@NiceGerbil

Well quite.

I'll believe that this gender is more important than sex when a man looking for lesbian porn is presented with 2 males and is not surprised and feels that's just what he wanted to watch.

I was asked for my gender on an NHS referral form today, no mention of sex.

So I wrote 'my sex is female' in the box.

I resisted the temptation to capitalise, underline and bold the word sex.

Ffs

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/06/2021 01:16

I've read all the waffle and I'm officially agender. I reject gender and do what I like. So if someone fancies me what are they? I mean my sex is female but what's a 'similar' gender to agender?

Although I know the answer is that an old lady isn't allowed to have a fancy gender. We're 'c15' aren't we?

NiceGerbil · 19/06/2021 01:25

How can you feel sexually attracted to someone or not based on an invisible feeling they have inside?

If you're walking down the street, how can you know to thing that person's fanciable?

Do we have to check their gender before deciding whether you fancy them or not? And the normal human animal instant response is... Wrong?

If that's the case why are good looking men and women used all over the place?

If a gay mag has loads of young good looking men in it. Should they specify the gender identity before a man can decide whether he finds them attractive or not?

It's nonsense let's be honest.

A complete denial of the really basic human reactions.

That's a man that's a woman.
That man/ woman is physically/ sexually attractive to me.
