"Everyone does. She is not a nice human being"

Is this still going on?

OP posts:
TheMarzipanDildo · 17/06/2021 17:10

It’s so sad isn’t it? We could win the war (and JKR is continually being vindicated) but once people have got something in their head...

PurpleHoodie · 17/06/2021 17:17

It is still going on.

Critical Thinking is an available GCSE subject in this country (England. Perhaps Wales, NI and Scottish equivalent also)

It should be made as compulsory as Maths and English.

thirdfiddle · 17/06/2021 17:18

Odds on them actually having read what she said? About 100:1 I'd say.

thirdfiddle · 17/06/2021 17:19

Against that is.

PurpleHoodie · 17/06/2021 17:19

500:1

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 17/06/2021 17:21

I'm sure dd hasn't read it but is quite loud about how awful she is. I persist...

YellowFish12 · 17/06/2021 17:21

Yes it is still going on.

On of my acquaintances keeps posting things like "she just cant help herself can she?"

This 35 year old lady (a former huge JKR fan) can't point to what JKR has written that is actually transphobic but 1005 maintains she is and is an awful person.

So upsetting.

Datun · 17/06/2021 17:21

It didn't affect her book sales though. In fact, didn't they break records?

SelfPortraitWithEels · 17/06/2021 17:31

I have the absolute opposite of beef with JKR. What would that be? Gravy? Dumplings? Well I have MASSIVE DUMPLINGS with JKR because she is brilliant and I could not admire her more.

Actually, written down, that sounds rather unsalubrious... Grin

PurpleHoodie · 17/06/2021 17:31

Book (and other items) sales went up.

Goodness. To be SO RICH Glitterball

PurpleHoodie · 17/06/2021 17:32

"Massive dumplings" Grin

DeRigueurMortis · 17/06/2021 17:43

Sadly for some people yes.

IME with people who didn't bother to read her essay and labelled her most recent Galbraith book as transphobic - again without reading (spoiler: it's not).

Funny about how they never talk about her (unlike many people of her wealth) not involved in any tax avoidance and giving very significant sums of money to charity.

Frankly I find it a good signpost for idiocy and ignorance - you have a "beef" with JKR, well right back at you....she's achieved more in her life, shown more generosity and helped more people than "you" ever will.

80Days · 17/06/2021 17:44

I’m on a couple of large book / reading type FB groups, and it’s not uncommon for someone to comment on JKR’s alleged transphobia if one of her books is mentioned in a post.

They rarely offer any kind of evidence to back this up.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 17/06/2021 17:46

Must be all the money she gives to charity. Dreadful behaviour...

Helmetbymidnight · 17/06/2021 17:51

It is still going on - and if you have a kid who likes tik-tok (I know, I know) JKR is monstered there a lot.

InspiralCoalescenceRingdown · 17/06/2021 17:54

@PurpleHoodie

It should be the most compulsory of subjects.
Letsgetreadytocrumble · 17/06/2021 17:56

"Everyone does. She is not a nice human being"

If I heard anyone saying this, my immediate thought would be that they are a bit thick with zero critical thinking skills.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 17/06/2021 17:57

Tok tok - ah yes. I read a piece online today if an adult - a grown adult - copying some clot in there who announced that it was a super idea to ‘tattoo’ freckles onto your face with a pin and brown ink. I kid you not... lemmings have more sense.

Liftwantedaroundtheworld · 17/06/2021 17:58

I'm in a FB group that requires all posts about Harry Potter to come with a trigger warning 🙄

NearlyAlwaysInsane · 17/06/2021 18:00

Same old, same old, nothing to see here, move along.

This kind of stuff is sadly more and more common. Just look at Mumsnet! Grin

OnWednesdaysWeWearMink · 17/06/2021 18:01

There are some Tiktoks about how she’s supposedly racist too.

Why are teenagers today so boring? It this was the 1800s I suppose the equivalent would be going to church every day and fainting whenever you saw something that upset your ladylike sensibility.

NormaSnorks · 17/06/2021 18:02

Depending on how brave I'm feeling I sometimes reply "Oh really, what did she say?" and then watch them squirm as they can't actually articulate it . ..

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 17/06/2021 18:13

LiftWanted

That trigger warning may be discriminatory after the Maya Forstater judgement. Requiring a trigger warning because someone holds a protected belief could be discriminatory unless holders of other protected beliefs are similarly targeted.

Blankspace101 · 17/06/2021 18:13

I think she’s pretty much burned here bridges with the younger generation. We can challenge them and even if they can’t explain what she has done wrong, it doesn’t seem to change their mind.

Helmetbymidnight · 17/06/2021 18:15

i dont- it will take a while but im confident many/most will revise their views.
