Female but with 25% male traits

What does this mean? Someone I know, someone who is intelligent and well-read and has raised daughters and granddaughters, has just blocked me after making the statement that she is a Cis woman but with 25% male traits: none of us, she says, is wholly male or female, we are all on a spectrum.

Is this Mermaids speaking? She works for the NHS and I am totally gutted that she would fall for it. Last person in the world I'd expect to be brainwashed, but she likes to think of herself as far left and progressive.

It's important to resist the temptation to whistle 'Hitler has only got one ball' every time you meet.

SirVixofVixHall · 11/06/2021 14:29

If those “traits” occur in a female then they are bloody obviously female traits too.
The idiocy !

Nonmaquillee · 11/06/2021 14:33

I too am wracking my brains over my own potential “male traits”. Excellent at map reading? Often enjoy wearing trousers?!

Who knows. What utter BS. I couldn’t take a friend seriously if she came out with something like that.

Luckyelephant1 · 11/06/2021 14:41

For fucks sake. On the one hand you have people trying to break down tradional. gender stereotypes. Then you have these fucktards. I like blue more than pink and preferred cars to dolls when I was younger. Does that make me more male than female? This whole thing is dangerous bullshit and needs to stop.

SirVixofVixHall · 11/06/2021 14:51

25% male is quite amusing in itself. Did she do a quiz or something ?
Q1.
Do you like cards with kittens on?
A.Love them.
B.indifferent.
C.Kittens ? Blueerggh, only motorbikes for me.

Q2. Can you read a map?
A. What is a map?
B. I did once on a school trip but Sir helped me.
C. Shall I give you the co-ordinates for that ?

Q.3. What do you ask for in a pub?
A. A sherry please, the only glasses that fit my dainty hands.
B. White wine, with crisps.
C. Artisan beer and pork scratchings.

Q4. What are you wearing?
A. Laura Ashley dress .
B. A blouse and palazzo pants.
C. Canvas trousers and a check shirt made of dog hair.

All As -You are a lovely fluffy lady !! We can smell your delicate rose perfume.
All Bs. You are female, but watch out you don’t slip into maleness.
All C. Hello mate, could you tarmac my drive ?

Combinations, adjust your percentage accordingly.

NameyNameyNameChangey · 11/06/2021 14:59

FFS, what are "male traits"?
I'm a female who never wears skirts, make up or bothers with eyebrows, doing anything to hair etc. I like to drink beer. I like football.
None of these are "male" traits, but I bet thats the kid of shite she means.

CandyLeBonBon · 11/06/2021 15:03

@trancepants

I lift weights and am visibly muscular. I prefer men's underwear as I like an in-seam. I wear men's deodorant because the cheaper stuff works better than the cheaper women's one I used to use. I love sci-fi and fantasy. Understand the off-side rule. I participate in a male dominate sport. Do DIY, including basic car and electrical maintenance and repairs. I wear make-up roughly twice every 1000 days or so, and even then usually for fancy dress not to look fancy. I mainly wear trousers. I feel slightly uncomfortable in sleeveless dresses because I think it looks incongruous with my muscular arms and shoulders. I can parallel park, read maps, am good at maths and scored in the top 2 percentile for mechanical reasoning and spatial awareness.

I'm a woman. No part of me is male.

I think I love you a little bit! 😂
ScrollingLeaves · 11/06/2021 15:05

Might she mean on a spectrum in that women naturally have some male hormones and, conversely , men have some female ones. I don’t know the proportions involved.

Of course women are still nevertheless women and men men.

ScrollingLeaves · 11/06/2021 15:09

A yes, now I remember those ‘find your gender’ questionnaires. I am sure that must be what’s behind her statement. They do come up with a percentage.

Justme56 · 11/06/2021 15:12

Why are people so bothered about analysing themselves and telling everyone else about it? Unless she is suffering from male pattern baldness and needs a sympathetic ear I'd probably just ignore her.

fruitbrewhaha · 11/06/2021 15:13

It will be the logic and clear thinking OP, that make her a bit male and not the female muddleheadedess.

Some of it is human nature I think. Look how much some people read into Astrology.

I loved a bit of Astrology as a teen. Grin

25% would equate to half a bollock

but this it total bollocks

zanahoria · 11/06/2021 15:32

is bullshit a male trait? She is doing well there.

quizqueen · 11/06/2021 15:46

How did she know she wasn't 24/26% male!!!! The world has gone mad. I was definitely a tomboy as a child. Dad was into western films so I had guns/cowboy and indian toys etc. No way would I ever want to be a man.

teawamutu · 11/06/2021 15:54

Although that argument fails commensurate with the bollocks she's spouting.

Unless she's saying she's only thinking 25% clearly?

trancepants · 11/06/2021 16:07

@CandyLeBonBon

I'm sorry but I also knit and crochet and some other 'girly' crafts. I'm a very maternal child loving person. I've even realised, after years of claiming to feel the opposite, that I actually really do like pink! I've somehow managed to enjoy activities and things that our culture aims at both men and women!!!!!

I don't know how that happened but thankfully the universe has yet to explode!

NotMeNoNo · 11/06/2021 16:48

@trancepants I also work in a "masculine" type job. I do a lot of needlework and I'm good at it (county show etc) my SIL is always saying "I can't figure out how you can be an engineer and at the same time do all those girly things". I just have to smile and nod, yeah, I'm a freak of nature. It's 99% the same skills: design and obsessive attention to detail.

It's funny, I was thinking the other day that the reason I like computing and sewing is the same. It's logical, you need to be able to assess what the consequences will be if you take X action (eg. If you use that material, or enter that code), and it requires a little creative thinking.

You carry on @trancepants all of it's good!

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 11/06/2021 17:30

It reminds me of some nonsense stuff about autism in females being down to a male brain.

MildredPuppy · 11/06/2021 17:37

I always used to joke that i had swapped the ability to multitask for a good sense of direction as i got told so often women were good at multitasking and equally often was ignored for directions but i didnt mean it literally. Its quite sinister people think they have a certain percent of traits that are male or female.

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 11/06/2021 18:59

@Melroses

I'm intrigued. So if you gather enough 'male' traits, does that make you male?

Or have you just done too many facebook quizzes 🤔

I have a feeling it's a catch 22 and the very activity of doing Facebook quizzes makes you more female.
MouseyTheVampireSlayer · 12/06/2021 08:26

It means she's an idiot OP.
I hope she didn't delete your comment before other people saw it.

BreatheAndFocus · 12/06/2021 08:59

It could be the same online quiz I did. Its not female and male, it’s feminine and masculine. Mine came out as more feminine than masculine (I can’t remember the percentages).

I’d point that out, and also point out the sexism. Is a man who is caring feminine? Can caring not be a masculine thing too? Do women who like DIY have to be masculine, or is DIY something that can be enjoyed by both sexed?

If you don’t want to fall out forever, you could frame it tactfully - “Sorry - I misunderstood. You’re talking about feminine and masculine. Yes, we all have a mix of traits that are sometimes referred to as feminine or masculine”.
