:). Indeed. This is straight from the Postmodern play book. Control the narrative by controlling language.

There is a Pew survey about this from last year, easily googlable, most Latin Americans in the US have never heard the term, of those that have a massive majority find it offensive. I expect though I don't know if there is data on it, that it will be even more pronounced in Latin America itself.
