What a tragedy and horror for the friends and family of those lovely, blithe, young women.

May the memories of them be as they were when they were dancing with the lights and not what came after.

Thelnebriati · 09/06/2021 20:10

So he has been found fit to stand trial?

PaleGreenGhost · 09/06/2021 20:40

Dancing in a park after dark has featured in my life. I wish for a world where women are free from the whims of violent males. Flowers for their mother and their families.

ArabellaScott · 09/06/2021 20:43

I guess so, Inebriati.

And me, too, Pale, me too.

This case is just heartbreaking. Flowers

toffeebutterpopcorn · 09/06/2021 21:36

God in heaven. He is saying that he did this to win the lottery? Those poor women.

Serpenta · 09/06/2021 21:41

Horrific case. Those poor sisters, such awful violence.

And the added horror of the police officers taking selfies with their bodies. Absolutely revolting.

risefromyourgrave · 09/06/2021 21:54

Oh God, the fact that they had stayed on in the park to dance just makes this even more heartbreaking. They were having such a lovely evening and then this monster comes along and ends it all.

PaleGreenGhost · 09/06/2021 22:06

I absolutely hate the way we get to hear the man's reasoning for murder in reports of trials. I hate how terrorism is similarly reported too. It seems wrong that these men still have a voice, when they have silenced the voices of their victims. I don't fucking care mate. Whether God or the devil or your hurt feelings made you do it.

olderthanilookapparently · 09/06/2021 22:10

So terribly sad they were celebrating birthdays a year ago so the anniversary of their deaths is wrapped up with their birthdays due friends and Family and now the trail at the same time.

It's so sad

UnaOfStormhold · 09/06/2021 22:20

Flowers Flowers

LizzieSiddal · 09/06/2021 22:21
Flowers

His reasoning is horrific.

nocoolnamesleft · 09/06/2021 22:21

What a bloody waste. Do we get to hear the hopes and dreams of two vibrant women? Or just the maundering fantasies of their murderer?

callmemaybee · 09/06/2021 22:22

I thought this too. The trial is around a year after they were murdered. Their poor family, I can’t even imagine the rollercoaster of tragedy
callmemaybee · 09/06/2021 22:26

It’s infuriating that their lives were taken over such fucking bullshit too though

it’s unfortunate that the voices in his head didn’t tell him to sacrifice himself, it had to be innocent women 🙄

littlbrowndog · 09/06/2021 22:27

My heart my heart

Both of them just dancing

Heart broken for them and their mum

He said to kill only women

Will we ever be safe just to dance in the dark

callmemaybee · 09/06/2021 22:47

Here’s a recap of the trial if anyone is interested in the live coverage. It is brutal though so beware. There’s many aspects which have honestly shocked me, and I didn’t think you could get much more shocking considering the depravity of the crime itself

Just horrific.

summerisler · 10/06/2021 00:12

This is horrific. I can’t actually get my head around what I’ve just read.

DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 10/06/2021 00:29

Ok, sorry in advance, I’ve had a wine or two, this may be garbled: I’m angry about this.
I’m angry because, months ago, when others were asking why this crime (and others, with similar victims) hadn’t been given the high profile reporting and media interest of the Sarah Everard case, I was still thinking, ‘No no, there will be a reason. It’s definitely not going to be because of race or class. It’s definitely not going to be because they weren’t white, middle class. It’ll be because there’s a connection between them and the suspect, or something explainable. It won’t be a ‘stranger’ murder, we’re all told they’re really really rare, so it definitely won’t be that, because we wouldn’t be lied to in that way, as women, would we? We can trust the police and the media, can’t we?’. Turns out, yes, yes we can and will be lied to. Yes there are reasons why this case wasn’t given the profile of other cases. It’s fucking depressing. But, and here’s the kicker, at least it was reported, how many other murders of women never make it in to the MSM. At. All.? Well, they couldn’t, could they? No one could cope with the constant depiction of reality, every day in the press, could they. ?.

NiceGerbil · 10/06/2021 00:45

No that's not garbled and you are correct.

There were threads after the vigil saying why is she getting all this why didn't X or y get it. Sort of complaining that the women who were upset were inconsistent and mean. Or something.

The media took a massive interest from when Sarah everard went missing for a variety of reasons. So the public knew about it.

That was unusual. 2 or 3 women get murdered every week and their names are not known. Local news maybe.

People will react to the information they are given.

The sisters murdered. I noticed that the report today about the trial did not mention about the police officers and the selfies. Why not? Everyone needs to know what they did.

The family have pushed for the case to be reviewed. Because they believe the police didn't bother because of the race of the women and where they lived. I believe people looking with the family found them.

And you know what? I suspect that the whole story about their murder, what the police did etc. Would STILL not be in the media. If it wasn't for the fact that their mum wasn't a woman with a voice. A woman who could get herself listened to. She is the reason this has even been in the news imo.

Police misconduct and in general the attitude towards VAWG including sex offences needs a total overhaul but I don't see it happening esp with the met who are worse than awful.

It’s absolutely awful. Those poor women, two beautiful sisters, they had the right to be safe.

As for him, he doesn’t sound particularly well mentally, but are murder accused not psychiatrically examined? In Scotland all murder accused are examined by psychiatrists.

Amen to that!

Horrific case.

A young girl I went to school with was murdered - I remember her mum saying how she'd fallen in love with her as soon as she found out she was pregnant. From the moment she was born she kept her warm, fed and safe - she read to her, she excitedly got her ready for her first day of school - all the stuff mums do. Then within seconds it was all taken away by a random (man!) stranger. It really stuck with me. Apparently he was bullied at school 20 years previously - so fucking what? Confused

My thoughts are with the sisters family, not only for their horrific loss, but also for how their loved ones were treat by the police after their deaths and how the family's pleas for help to find them were seemingly ignored. Just sickening.
