It’s on bitesize but also on the front page today. Describes the lives of various people who have fought for gay rights. But there are several ‘simplifications’. They are all described as having fought for LGBT rights although as far as a brief search shows most of them fought for lesbian or gay rights rather than trans, but this isn’t made clear. Marsha P Johnson is also described as a transwoman and no mention is made of Martina Navratilova’s stance on transgender people in sport. Am I seeing things that aren’t there?

Nope. Not seeing things. This has become the normal narrative.

FlibbertyGiblets · 09/06/2021 07:38

I saw that earlier today, sigh.

Such fibs. Just how did we get here?

DropItBouncer · 09/06/2021 07:40

Just as it was predicted in '1984'.

Every reference I've seen to Marsha P Johnson this Pride month has said he was a trans woman, if not out-and-out declaring the Stonewall riots to be single handedly the work of trans people of colour. People just seem to be taking it as fact now and it feels as if pointing anything out otherwise would mark your card. It feels very much like the guff people would post about JKR making trans people the bad guys in her books, etc. Not true but who cares.

I’m still sometimes quite aghast as the juggernaut that has crashed through culture and society on this one issue. There are more people whose lives are affected by hearing or sight loss, having a physical/mobility issue, having Alzheimer’s or dementia, grieving the loss of a child... so many groups within society who have the right to stand up and demand demand demand to be heard and to have society listen to them and support them.

But no.

Well at least they've not transwashed Alan Turing, as I saw an activist do on Twitter!

Yet.
