Children’s school citing “gender” as protected characteristic

I’ve just had a look at my children’s schools Equality policy and they have the following info on it:

xxxx School seeks to ensure that no member of the school community, or any person through their contact with the school, are discriminated by
any of the following characteristics:
Age
Disability
Gender Reassignment Marriage and Civil Partnership Pregnancy and maternity Race
Religion or belief
Gender
Sexual orientation
(Taken from ‘Protected Characteristics’ (Equality Act 2010)

I would like to contact the school to request this is corrected to show the correct characteristics.

I would be grateful if you could advise if there are any template letters I could use.
Also I’m worried I would be viewed negatively for raising this and wondered if I should send it as an anonymous letter?

Thanks in advance

Safe schools alliance might have one or Transgender Trend.

To be fair to them they may have used gender to mean sex as opposed to gender to mean gender identity.

I agree that it would be good if it was clarified that sex is the protected characteristic, not gender or gender identity.

I explained this to my DDs headmaster and they corrected straight away.

I pointed it out to mine. They meant sex to be fair.

There was an attempt a while ago to get it changed on the sly by changing the definition on various reference sites.

When the switch was noticed, organisations were contacted to correct their information. However, some will have been missed. One of our authorities was caught out because they used the website of one of these organisations instead of checking on the Government site.

You just need to refer them to the official list on the Government site and they will correct it:

Just message the head and say the 9 protected characteristics in UK law are

Age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation.

Reiterate it's sex not gender and the school needs to update their info accordingly.

I use proton mail to send mine if anonymity is important. It's free and easy to sign up.

I sent a simple email to my local women’s aid who had listed gender instead of sex.

They replied the next day and it was amended within a week. They thanked me for pointing out the mistake Smile

I contacted my children's school about this and am keeping a very close eye on things, as apparently the policies are County-wide. Our county council is very captured.

I pointed out something similar at DCs school. They (mistakenly) put gender down instead of sex - changed it without any issue/problems

Unfortunately, gender is used interchangeably with sex - which wasn't a problem before all the gender woo woo started up - but now it is vital that we keep repeating that sex is a protected characteristic not gender.

I was very tempted BTW to point out that "gender" is a social construct but thought I would avoid making the pain for the the very reasonable deputy head any worse Grin

Well done to everyone for challenging these schools about their mangling of the law. Safe Schools Alliance have a range of excellent letters for schools who have been captured by Stonewall and other groups:
