I was surprised to read this article from the front page of the Guardian online. It seems very balanced (for them).
Still too little, too late though

Agree - it covers the main points well.

SpindleWhorl · 04/06/2021 17:14

I've scanned it - about to read it properly. I am surprised too.

Is it archived anywhere?

MadameKali · 04/06/2021 17:15

I thought that too, but yeah, as you say too little too late.
Funny isn't it that after all the shit with Stonewall over the last couple of weeks the BBC & The Guardian have suddenly decided to start being a bit more balanced.

We see you and we won't forget.

Chrysanthemum5 · 04/06/2021 17:25

@MadameKali having just read the BBC's article about the transgender paralympic athlete I'm not sure they are really becoming more balanced. It's very much, be kind, poor person just wants to be happy etc.

Oh, well that didn't last long, did it?
As you were Grin

MadameKali · 04/06/2021 17:30

That was to @Chrysanthemum5

Totallyrandomname · 04/06/2021 17:39

Does anyone know what tweets specifically she is being charged over? Or is that not public knowledge?

Chrysanthemum5 · 04/06/2021 17:41

@Totallyrandomname There are rumours online, but not sure we can share them. If you search for Glinner's latest update he talks about one

There's two whole threads on it! We know one of them, but there are five we don't know.

Ah yes but the pictures they’re using speak volumes!!!

I've seen tweets saying one of the tweets may be a suffragette ribbon on a fence that someone with a vivid imagination looked like a noose but I don't know if that's just speculation. I'm not aware of her threatening to go round someone's house with a baseball bat or actually threatening anyone.

midgedude · 04/06/2021 17:44

The only bit I objected to was the fact that women's rights for historical biological discrimination... like it doesn't happen now

WarOnWoman · 04/06/2021 17:44

Is it archived anywhere? I don't want to give them clicks?

GAHgamel · 05/06/2021 04:22

Presumably they have to balanced on this though, otherwise it'd be a contempt of court issue?

NotBadConsidering · 05/06/2021 07:35

In the good old days, this wouldn’t need to be called “balanced reporting” it would just be called “reporting”. How sad it is that a news organisation is being damned with faint praise for reporting an incident without its usual propaganda. In no way should the Guardian be lauded, however lightly, for unbiased reporting, or for seemingly shifting towards a non-ideological position on reporting such events; that’s the basic tenet of journalism, it’s not exceptionalism.

NotTerfNorCis · 05/06/2021 08:26

I was surprised by that Guardian article as well. It did sound like they were trying to be neutral. Even calling someone a 'gender critical feminist' rather than a 't*rf' is a promising step.

Gender-critical feminists disagree with the view of some LGBT activists that gender identity should be prioritised over biological sex in terms of law-making and policy. They fear sex is being argued into non-existence and that this will erode rights hard-won by women in the face of historical biological discrimination.

Regarding why Marion Millar is being prosecuted:

Her Twitter account, which she said she locked on Thursday because of abuse, includes robust defences of gender-critical positions and calling for certain LGBTI activists to be kept away from schools and children.

But Glinner has been 'reliably informed' that she's being charged over a picture of a ribbon.

Babdoc · 05/06/2021 08:31

If her suffragette ribbon represents a noose, then the SNP should prosecute themselves for their party symbol - a noose shape - on every one of their election placards.
