I wondered who had seen this young woman's brilliant high school graduation speech? It will clearly have taken serious guts to go off script and use her platform to speak about an injustice that she clearly cares about so passionately especially in politically conversation state like Texas. Inspiring stuff from someone who has just finished high school!

She's brilliant! What a great hope for our future with young women like this.

@Delphinium20
My thoughts exactly!

I saw this, absolutely brilliant

I think the school has come back and said they want to read all speeches in advance next time though, depressingly

ratatat66 · 03/06/2021 22:09

It should have said 'politically conservative' in the text above not conversation - damn typo

@ShirleyPhallus that is depressing! This will really divided opinion in the crowd which will have included lots of students and parents with conservative views on abortion.

Whatever the views of some in the audience, nobody can deny her bravery.

A wonderful speech by someone so young.

I am horrified that they have now basicslly outlawed safe abortion in Texas. Men controlling women yet again

midgedude · 04/06/2021 12:11

I read that the school had read a planned speech

imsanehonest · 04/06/2021 12:18

Yes I saw this on Twitter - she's fantastic, being so passionate and clear whilst obviously nervous. I'm struggling to think of a law that dictates what happens to men's bodies?

They did read it in advance, she deliberately went off script.

@TuvoknotSpock
Astounding isn't it. No exceptions made even for rape or incest and to be only given 6 weeks when so many women don't even know they are pregnant. They can hardly be called pro life in a state where they have the death penalty and are fanatical about their right to bear arms. They are pro punishment, in this case the punishment for having sex or being raped is being forced to have a baby you don't want.

Very courageous woman. They are pro life during pregnancy only. After that, it seems, life stops being so precious and it’s pro gun and pro death penalty.

GlitterBicuits · 04/06/2021 14:50

Is there any way we can let her know we support her?

Serpenta · 04/06/2021 14:56

A football field in Texas is as conservative a place there is in America I would guess. And no doubt several of the parent attendees were exercising their right to carry a gun at the time. For her to have planned this, giving them a dummy speech and then pulling this out once on stage, is just fantastic.

Gutsy teen.

Erikrie · 04/06/2021 22:08

Good for her. Powerful speech.
