Amazing what great progress LGBTQ+ rights have made just during the past 3 or 4 decades!

OP posts:

Should read - surely the OP is being exclusionary

Notagain20 · 02/06/2021 21:02

Thinking of all the same sex attracted men and women who have fought so hard over many years for equal rights, acceptance, safe spaces and services. I know many of them have mixed feelings about the rainbow sparkles and consumer virtue signalling that much of Pride seems to have become. May the fight and the fun continue 💪

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 02/06/2021 21:03

@Waitwhat23

I recently saw a poster on here say (in all seriousness) that the correct acronym is now LGBTQQICAPF2K so surely is being exclusionary by not stating the rest of the letters?
Thats what i saw as well

And the F stands for friends and family

Can anyone in the ‘know’ confirm that because surely everyone on the planet comes under friends and family

Notagain20 · 02/06/2021 21:08

This has got me thinking about Pride marches I've been on and remembered that the first time I realised that some gay men really hate women was in Hyde Park at Pride. Can't even remember what happened to open my eyes but god I was disappointed! I'd had this naive assumption that gay men wouldn't ever be misogynists. Oh well, you live and learn. Thank the goddess for the international network of powerful lesbians

Happy pride month to the LGB ☺️

toffeebutterpopcorn · 03/06/2021 08:42

Do we still need Pride? It’s a bit like the Eurovision Song Contest... definitely not what it was and full of people who shouldn’t really be there (but just really really really want to party).

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 03/06/2021 08:44

My two eldest love pride

But youre right, toffee they do love the party part of it

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 03/06/2021 08:45

Though I’m not sure what you mean by people that shouldn’t be there

toffeebutterpopcorn · 03/06/2021 08:50

Well back in the day (yes I’m yay old)... it wasn’t a street party with kids, dogs and your granny. You wouldn’t bump into your neighbours, the postman, your teachers of people in fetish gear. The police weren’t dancing with you. More a feeling of solidarity.

It was a march of/for LB people and their supporters. It was more about civil rights than Mardi Gras.

Maybe it just needs a rebrand.

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 03/06/2021 08:59

Today I wouldn't even take my teens to watch a parade that's inevitably going to encompass gimp masks, fetish gear, near nakedness, BSDM and sexualised furry/anime attire.

I took mine to our local pride once. Come one, come all they said. Family friendly and fun they said.

There were grown adults in puppy play bdsm gear. There was extremely adult comedy. It was most definitely not family friendly. It was really quite a bizarre contrast with the people I know who are LG, and seemed heavily focussed on kink.

I feel very sad that pride is no longer about understanding that LGB people are just like everyone else, happening to be same Sex attracted. It seems to have really lost its way.

TedImgoingmad · 03/06/2021 09:01

Surely after the B, none of the other alphabet soupers are inherently homosexual (same sex attracted), so their coupling with the first 3 is somewhat opportunistic in terms of hetero privilege. They are the people who crash the lovely house party, put their own music on, vomit on the new rug, refuse to leave, tell the host that they are being boring for objecting, and declare that the party was shit before they turned up.

To all the same sex attracted, standing up for your right to say no to coerced coupling, all power to you and the amazing LGBA.

shakingstevensfan · 03/06/2021 09:22

It was not long ago that those in same-sex relationships did not have any civil rights. Sacked because you are a lesbian? Tough luck.
I remember the lesbians fighting because they the courts were taking away their children purely because they were a lesbian. Nobody cared except other lesbians. Or the women locked up in mental hospitals for being lesbian. It was still happening in the '80s and '90s.
Most young people do not release how recent all of this was. Stonewall is a mess now. But back in the day it really did change things.

SapphosRock · 03/06/2021 09:24

Happy Pride month one and all 🏳️‍🌈

To all the LGB people I celebrate how far we have come with equal rights. Same sex relationships are normal, healthy and wonderful.

To all the TQI people I celebrate your right to express yourself without fear or prejudice.

To all the + people I don't really know who you are or what you do but as long as everyone is happy and consenting then I celebrate you too

To all the allies on here, thank you for your support of lesbian and bisexual women, we've had a rough ride the last few years and the support of our straight sisters has been invaluable.
