'I’ve resigned from the NEC of @theSNP
. A number of factors have prevented me from fulfilling the mandate party members gave me to improve transparency & scrutiny & to uphold the party’s constitution. I won’t be making any further comment at this stage.'

Ffs she's one of the few good mps we have left in Scotland. I bet this is because people want her to take over the SNP

Ohdeariedear · 31/05/2021 17:55

I wonder if this is connected in any way to the reasons gave Douglas Chapman for stepping down as party treasurer over the weekend.

I just looked this up. Crikey.

Despite having a resounding mandate from members to introduce more transparency into the party’s finances, I have not received the support or financial information to carry out the fiduciary duties of National Treasurer. Regretfully I have resigned with immediate effect 1/2

I do not intend to make a further statement on this issue. 2/2

Yes @ScreamingMeMe, it jumped out at me that they both referenced “transparency” in their statements.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 31/05/2021 18:17

Should that be TRANSparency I wonder.....

ArabellaScott · 31/05/2021 18:27

Yes, following on from Chapman's resignation this is ... well, it's interesting.

Taken from someone on Twitter:

'Even the most loyal SNP members are now being questioned if they don't conform. The leadership are forcing the issue to push those with doubts to leave. The idea of the party as a cult seemed ridiculous but really there is no other explanation for this bizarre hard-line stance.'

It’s interesting too @ArabellaScott that they are both Westminster MPs, not MSPs.

ArabellaScott · 31/05/2021 18:36

Hm, yes, it is.

I'm presuming their positions made them personally legally responsible and they saw issues they didn't want to take the blame for.

I don't think this is related to transideology - apart from the way that has been allowed also allowing other disreputable stuff. JC is a supporter of SNPs independence aim and she may not want to speak up to risk that. I think independence will remove the final checks on this corrupt government.
