Organisations Leaving Stonewall: The List

Thought it would be handy to keep a running list here of organisations who have done 'budget reviews' or similar and have subsequently decided that Stonewall are 'not value for money'.

EHRC
ACAS
House of Commons
DVLA
Dorset Police
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government

Do feel free to update the thread as more join the exodus.

Top story in the Times Law section today "Critics call for law firms to quit Stonewall":

The category I find most troubling is the "demi sexual" as a descriptor of someone who needs an emotional connection before sleeping with someone. In the good old days this would have been the aim of most of us, who didn't fall under the arsehole category. Most especially those of us who could get pregnant. Now then it is a rare category. If that is really the case it is depressing beyond measure.

Excellent piece by Catherine Baksi (who I hadn't heard of before).

Yes I agree JoodyBlue
More breaking down barriers and treating one class as objects to be available for the other class, ties in nicely with sex work is work.

And they said "After some disquiet about recent actions of Stonewall we have decided to exit the Stonewall Diversity Programme", rather than citing budgetary concerns. The trickle is beginning to increase into a flow.
EmbarrassingAdmissions · 04/06/2021 11:40

Amid increasing scrutiny of the benefits of participation, at the time of going to press 24 of the 77 Diversity Champion law firms contacted by RollOnFriday confirmed that they remained members of the scheme, while nine, including Travers Smith, Pinsent Masons, Gateley, Cleary Gottlieb, and Baker McKenzie, said they intended to renew their memberships.
…
The Law Society and the Solicitors Regulation Authority both declined to clarify whether or not they were still Diversity Champions.

As citizens, I think we have a public interest right to know if the regulatory bodies and leading firms are supporting an organisation that misrepresents the law and continues to do so despite numerous corrections.

So Stonewall invent new language and terms, and re-invent the meaning of well established and understood terms (without consulting those who the terms refer to), are a result of this merry go round, employers are so bamboozled they don't have a hope of keeping pace, and are so afraid of making a 'mistake' that they need the 'experts' to advise them. This is MLM surely?

There are some excellent discussions of the vast overlaps of cults and MLM and why you constantly need mentors and leaders to keep you clear and on-track for the purity of the vision of the future. It's all very similar.

That's fantastic. Not least because they're openly saying they were worried by Stonewall's recent actions, instead of going for the 'cutbacks' line.
AfternoonToffee · 04/06/2021 12:10

As usual those in support of SW merely resort to slurs, even if you vehemently disagree with what is currently happening you must surely notice the difference in how the two sides put their point across.

Datun · 04/06/2021 12:13

Concerns from erstwhile supporters over Stonewall's direction have grown since it pivoted to encompass transgender issues in 2015, when it began campaigning for male-bodied people to be able to self-identify as women, and for the abolition of exemptions which can currently prevent males from using single sex female spaces such as women's changing rooms, refuges, hostels and prisons.

It still amazes me that anyone, anyone at all, finds at least the latter part, anything other than crazy.

The rollonfriday article is good. Pleased to see a law firm being truthful about being disquieted with Stonewall rather than hiding behind 'budgetary limitations'.

ANewCreation · 04/06/2021 13:52

'But Frances Coulson, the firm's Senior Partner, told RollOnFriday that Moon Beever had relinquished its membership.

"After some disquiet about recent actions of Stonewall we have decided to exit the Stonewall Diversity Programme", she said.

"This in no way detracts from our commitment to diversity and equality, but in common with the Equality and Human Rights Commission and Government Departments we no longer feel that we can support Stonewall", said Coulson.'

I like the cut of her jib - not only expressing her own disquiet but highlighting the fact that the EHRC and government departments are on the move too. Nicely put.

Also fab name for a law firm

The Law Society most definitely IS a member. According to its FOI response on 4th March 2021 it paid annual membership fees of £3000 in 2020, and the same the year before. Membership runs to 31st August.

I guess it is just too craven to admit its shameful part in joining and promoting this racket and will quietly let membership lapse in August under the guise of a 'budget review'. Cowards.

We really, really need a public enquiry.

Just got back from the weekly shop at Sainsburys - can’t see them leaving Stonewall anytime soon: rainbow bunting everywhere complete with “LGBTQ+“ branded flags.

Sainsbury's have been totally StoneWall washed, it's the same every year.

@CaveMum

Just got back from the weekly shop at Sainsburys - can’t see them leaving Stonewall anytime soon: rainbow bunting everywhere complete with “LGBTQ+“ branded flags.
I was there this morning and rolled my eyes at the rainbow poster by the door saying they are 'proud to be working with Comic Relief to support their LGBT+ community'. It reminded me never to donate to Comic Relief again, and I wandered around with my trolley musing on all the other 'communities' that could really genuinely benefit from a huge supermarket working to support them. (Though of course, putting up posters and rainbow banners is the only 'work' they actually seem to do.)

Two of my daughters are in the 'LGBT+ community.' Both of them would argue that they don't require any additional support from Sainsburys, thanks very much. And that the assumption that they do, in itself, has a whiff of homophobia about it. ('Hey - you're welcome to shop here, just in case you were worried that you weren't, because of - you know - your sexual preferences!)
