Organisations Leaving Stonewall: The List

Barracker · 29/05/2021 19:50

Thought it would be handy to keep a running list here of organisations who have done 'budget reviews' or similar and have subsequently decided that Stonewall are 'not value for money'.

EHRC
ACAS
House of Commons
DVLA
Dorset Police
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government

Do feel free to update the thread as more join the exodus.

My pleasure - my caveats are round the currency of that list and how poorly so many organisations respond. Easier list (as above) with workings in separate posts above:

I have just emailed Neath Port Talbot Council to find out how much money they have spent on being Diversity Champions. (if they are)

Neath Port Talbot Council didn't give separate answers but shouldn't be on the list:

The questions below are not applicable as the Council has never made an application to be a “Stonewall Diversity Champion” or to be included on Stonewall’s “Workplace Equality Index.'' The Council has neither had 'any other communication' from Stonewall during the stated period

Thank you for that information

As a further explanation of my working, I only checked the FOI responses for bodies on the Sex Matters Stonewall list. I've seen someone on Twitter say that they checked the most recent 100 responses and found 20 that weren't SDC - however, a lot of those aren't on the list so I didn't consult those.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 02/06/2021 11:45

@Floisme

I am beginning to feel anxious in case Stonewall run out of money before Allison Bailey can sue them.

Swim England are out - I’m betting Sharron Davies played a role there!

This is interesting if you want to see the sort of submission associated with a world top class university. Read and learn Wink

I don't think organisations always answer FOIs properly. Sex Matters has North Wales Police as having left. Yet at www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/information_about_your_dealings_408#incoming-1730292 they state they have had no involvement with Stonewall in 2019 or 2020.

Having read several hundred FOI responses, a number of organisations: obfuscate; report that they don't hold information; report they hold information but don't consider they need to share it; refuse to reply to someone who doesn't identify their first name or honorific; don't answer the 6 questions; seem to dance around whether their answer to Q1 omits the information that they have a 3 year membership so didn't need to apply; don't answer Q6 clearly.

A number of organisations respond that they have no SW membership/contact and never have - which raises the question about the accuracy of SW's list.

If anybody is knowledgeable about databases, it would be very helpful if they could specify how to organise these FOIs and the responses better.

ArabellaScott · 02/06/2021 14:37

Have you got MS Access, Embarrassing? That was the database programme I used about a million years ago. It was quite good for pulling different data out afterwrds ... not sure I could still use it now, tho!

I have access to a reasonable suite of software and data analysis tools - it's more that I'm not a database person for this sort of thing. So, I need to know how to pull in the relevant FOIs as compared to Sex Matters list - and then how to: log that an organisation hasn't responded; pull in answers even when I'm aware that a fair number of the respondents haven't answered Q1-6.

Just asked a Uni where my daughter is holding a place to confirm that they have quit Stonewall's 'Diversity Champions' lobby; why send her to a Uni that would support the denial of same-sex attraction, thus my existence as a lesbian, and her existence as a young woman with sex-based rights. This is from the investigation into Stonewall's activities re:Essex University that have been described as illegal.
“The report sets out in extremely clear terms how following a ‘simple’ misrepresentation of the Equalities Act 2010 to include ‘gender identity’ can result in stopping academic debate of trans rights, or of the necessity to maintain sex-based rights… Universities must act upon the hectoring and bullying of those who hold gender critical views, especially when that hectoring comes in the form of violent and profane imagery and language.”

That is a blinding article. Absolutely brilliant.

eurochick · 02/06/2021 16:09

I put my head above the parapet last week and asked the head of diversity what the hell we were doing still associating with this bunch. I have tried...

Very interesting indeed. For the record, it says the policy is under review. Hope my photo attach works.

🧐 Jamie Hooper (now of Sport England) used to work there if my memory serves me correctly
Leafstamp · 02/06/2021 21:43

I had to google Jamie Hooper, and see that he’s actually gone freelance now by the looks of it:

uk.linkedin.com/in/jamie-hooper-he-him-1862935a

I wonder how much Sport England (and others?) pay him?

His practice seems a bit like Ruth Hunt’s?

Leafstamp · 02/06/2021 21:44

What did you Head of Diversity say @eurochick? I’m guessing it was not a fruitful discussion?

eurochick · 02/06/2021 22:11

@Leafstamp there has been no policy change yet in the organisation but I was told our association with Stonewall was already being discussed when I raised it. So better than the brush off I was expecting!

Leafstamp · 02/06/2021 22:23

Fingers crossed they are already on the path of dumping Stonewall then eurochick!

Miraloma · 02/06/2021 23:50

The DVLA? Have I missed my opportunity to self-identify as an HGV driver and go for a spin down the M4?
I did an audible hoot
SpindleWhorl · 03/06/2021 02:19

Interestingly, my local council do not appear to be involved with Stonewall. I'm tempted to FoI them ask why not. Could be illuminating.
