Fantastic to see women rising to the top in what is still a very male dominated profession.

Congratulations Rear Admiral Jude Terry.

Congratulations indeed to Rear Admiral Jude Terry.

How sad though that I had to check the pictures and write up to be absolutely sure the person was an actual adult human female.

TedImgoingmad · 26/05/2021 20:29

I agree. I no longer believe any of these "milestone" achievements involves an adult human female until I have seen evidence.

Congratulations Admiral Terry!

OhDear2200 · 26/05/2021 20:39

Great news. To be celebrated by women.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 26/05/2021 20:44

Hopefully inspiring a lot of young female sailors/naval officers to know it's possible.

Fantastic achievement and a great role model for other women in the Navy.

Congratulations to Rear Admiral Jude Terry. Smile

Great news indeed. Congratulations to Rear Admiral Jude Terry.

Very impressive woman.

Was also pleased to see the photo that she's an actual woman too.

Hoppinggreen · 26/05/2021 21:23

First of many I hope

PearPickingPorky · 26/05/2021 21:24

I actually can't imagine how difficult her job must be. Not because of the job itself, but because of the people and their attitudes to women. It's incredibly impressive that she's achieved what she has.

I was in a relationship with a naval officer for a few years and it was grim.

NiceGerbil · 26/05/2021 21:26

Yes I saw this earlier, well done to her!

Umbra · 26/05/2021 21:26

Fantastic news.

LucysSkyDiamonds · 26/05/2021 21:29

Congratulations Rear Admiral Terry. Similar story in Ireland yesterday- first ever appointment of a woman to the rank of Major General in the defence forces, Major General Maureen O'Brien. (And I've met her, definitely a woman-woman!)

Excellent news and many congratulations to both (though, as an aside, I do rather like the title Commodore Grin)

zanahoria · 26/05/2021 21:44

congratulations

although doesn't the navy have more admirals than war ships now?

NonnyMouse1337 · 26/05/2021 21:54

@Igmum

Excellent news and many congratulations to both (though, as an aside, I do rather like the title Commodore Grin)
Makes me think of this.
NonnyMouse1337 · 26/05/2021 21:55

Oh and congratulations to Major General Maureen O'Brien as well!

AfternoonToffee · 26/05/2021 23:22

Well Done to her, however she says that the RN "genuinely doesn't look at your gender", I'm not sure how true that is given it has taken to 2021 for the first female Admiral to be appointed. I think she probably means that she was the right person for the job so got it, but I struggle to believe that she is the first woman ever to have been suitable.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/05/2021 23:27

Congratulations to Rear Admiral Terry and Major General O'Brien!

Whatwouldscullydo · 26/05/2021 23:27

Awesome news . Smile

aliasundercover · 26/05/2021 23:48

That's really cheered me up.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 28/05/2021 07:48

On hearing this last night, my 8yo DD declared she wanted to join the Navy when she grows up.

(Her previous career plans have been a skiing paleontologist, an adventurer, an inventor and now this. We just tell her to work hard at school and she will have choice when older. But that sort of career wouldn't surprise me. )
