The rainbow symbol

I've noticed two instances recently where the rainbow symbol have been referred to as a symbol of the first lockdown.
The first was my DS son in the newsletter about pride week and it referred to it as a symbol of the lockdown and a symbol of hope in lockdown.
The second was on the programme This Morning. They had done a segment on rainbow decor being in now and how it's a symbol for the first lockdown.

Now I know the rainbow symbol has been around a long time and has been used for the LGBTQ community for many years. I find it infuriating that society are trying to take this away and remake it into a different thing because of this pandemic.

I know its not trademarked but why couldn't another symbol be used inside of a marginalised communities symbol. There are so many out there to choose from.

How do other people feel about it?

Humans have had words for rainbows since the first recorded languages, and mythologies about them.

Saw this on Twitter a few days ago - someone’s redesigned the flag to show the correct pecking order . I thought it was very apt!!

In the first lockdown a small child drew a rainbow to cheer up NHS workers, his mum put it in the window.

As already mentioned it is in the Bible.

It was also a children's TV show.

It was part of the name of a Greenpeace ship sunk in New Zealand.

South Africa refers to itself as, "The Rainbow Nation".

We have already heard on this thread from a Leprechaun.

The Dark Side Of The Moon Album has a rainbow.

NHS rainbows, Rainbow nation, part of guiding, Christianity, LGB...rainbows for all, there’s plenty to go round.

Slightly off topic but I once saw a double rainbow out of a plane window, two complete circles of rainbow colours one inside the other.

@TedImgoingmad Yes, all rainbows are full circles which is why you can never find the end when you are on earth, but if you are looking down you can see it.

Surely if it originated from the bible thats the true meaning of the rainbow. I think of Gods promise when i see a rainbow in the sky. The rainbow reassured Noah and his family that a flood on the same scale will never take place again. After the Flood, God made an everlasting promise with Noah, his family, their descendants, and all the living creatures. He promised never again to destroy the earth by a flood. The rainbow was the sign of that promise – a reminder of God’s commitment to the earth.

It originated from sunlight hitting moisture in the atmosphere.

The true meaning of the rainbow is refraction.

I also strongly suspect that the Christian religion cannot lay sole claim to the rainbow.

Having said that, I now have the urge to watch Good Omens again and especially that scene where the angels discuss who is actually responsible for the great flood; God or Satan, and the unicorn bolts for it.
