An external speaker from this group is to give a workshop on Gender Equality at the DC's school. Does anyone know anything about them please?

On the face of it the website description of the workshop looks fairly uncontroversial, apart from using 'gender' instead of 'sex' - which could just be being mealy-mouthed about using the word 'sex', or could be the rather more alarming 'identity' trumps 'biology' belief system.

I do not think the school and I are singing from the same hymn sheet when it comes to gender identity so I am worried.

Would the school give you a preview of the content?

I'm planning to ask, but was hoping someone might be able to give me a heads-up. I'm worried about the possible fall-out on the DC if I intervene - the school's a Stonewall Champion.

I was pleasantly surprised. The DC really, really didn't want me to say anything to the school so I didn't, but I urged them not to park their ability to think critically at the door.

It turned out, in this particular workshop, 'gender' really was being used as a mealy-mouthed substitute for 'sex'. The workshop covered pay gaps, differing career opportunities and unequal representation in STEM. It merely mentioned gender in the sense no one should feel obliged to conform to stereotypes. No quarrel with that. Smile

The school's coming fund-raising event for Stonewall however...Sigh.
