Just listened to the interview from 21/ May with the Prisons minister and Anita Rani. There was a lot of agreement about the need to keep young women out of the system and how vulnerable they are. Anita challenged him as to why 500 more places were being built if there are so few dangerous women prisoners, if the aim was to stop women being imprisoned , and that surely the funding should be put into schemes on the outside. What was astonishing ( not really) was that neither saw fit to mention the increasing number of men in the female estate. Surely this is of huge relevance to the issue of vulnerable women in prison?
