Yeah, they will claim they "don't deny biology" (important factor in sport's performance) but just want to ignore biology in favour of gender identity (which makes no difference to sport)...

They need to verbally say they believe in it; but then they just ignore it.

Yet again the backwards logic of trans ideology when it comes of Women's provisions.

Real world: A group of people are called Women. They build provisions around what they need based on the specific characteristics and needs of the group.

Trans thinking: Provisions exist for Women.
This happened by magic and has nothing to do with any specific characteristics and needs of the group of people called Women. The exact same provisions for Women are appropriate and necessary regardless of which specific people we happen to define as Women. To suggest any re-examination in the light of a change in the definition of Woman is transphobic and hateful.

Civil rights campaigns used to have popular grass roots but now US progressives believe that progress is anything some corporate think tank tells them

When the Democrats sell hogshit like this, I can actually understand why people voted for Trump.

FindTheTruth · 28/05/2021 17:33

to be inclusive as a human race, we need categories.

Took 84 years for the female sex class to get the right to run a marathon and 4 days for the Olympic Committee to remove the female sex category and replace it with mixed sex.

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 28/05/2021 22:47

I am shocked and gutted that those girls lost this case. WTF is wrong with the American justice system? What is there to understand? There’s no valid argument for letting juvenile males compete in events designated for juvenile females. None at all.

As you say, zanahoria, things like this make it clearer why people voted for Trump in the numbers they did. But bloody hell. As if he’s any kind of friend to women and girls.

Trump or Biden - what a choice that was. Would you like women’s rights to suffer death by hanging or by firing squad? Great.

I just hope the appeal court is more sane. But I’ve no idea if there’s any justification for that hope.

“Hurtful language”, my arse. When women and girls are being really hurt by this. Misogynist shitshow of a nation.

HeirloomTomato · 28/05/2021 22:59

She's brave to put her name to this and take her case through the courts. I can only imagine the amount of abuse and hatred the TRAs will be sending her way as a result.

I had no idea that trans competitors were having such an impact in female sports already. That is a real problem. In the USA, sports scholarships are an important source of funding for college so this kind of unfair competition has far-reaching impacts on young women, more than just losing a trophy. It's taking away opportunities that were enshrined in law by Title IX provisions specifically to help female athletes have a fair chance for funding, training and development compared to male athletes.

OP, @Zinco it looks like the article you linked to has been 'edited'?

Please tell me why this isn't a MRA movement?

I'm glad these girls are fighting back and I hope they win. Women have fought to long and to hard to have female participation in sport taken seriously to go back to washing the kits and slicing the half time oranges.

Religious beliefs should not interfere with sports and gender identity should not overide biology.

Yes, if you look at the end of page 1, that's why I bumped the thread. USA Today decided to censor the word "male" from the article because it's too upsetting to mention it.

So the author wasn't allowed to say that her opponent, "had the advantage of a male body". (Not exact quote, this is from memory.)

What form of words are you fucking supposed to use?

Her opponent, "had the advantage of being wrongly categorized at birth as being male"??

Her opponent, "had the advantage of having a female penis and testes"??

Bloody journalists...

This is sadly only going to get worse and people will only notice once it’s too late.

It was actually my dh who alerted me to all of this a few years ago as I thought that these pages were full of nasty women who should just be kind 🙄

He was incandescent with rage over what was happening in sport, well women’s sport, but to him sport is sport.

He had very real Olympic aspirations and in his sport had the very real chance of making the team although he now grudgingly admits, would never have won a medal.

20 plus years on, women althletes, despite all the advances in nutrition/training has not resulted in the current crop of medalists meeting his times. Sex matters in most sports otherwise why differentiate in the first place?

DysonSphere · 29/05/2021 21:16

Bobbi Lancaster is a name I hadn't seen before. At the age of 62 Bobbi transitioned and the LPGA decide to let Bobbi compete against the women. Previously Bobbi had been an extremely good golfer playing in the men's category, even playing in the Ontario Open. At the age of 71 Bobbi is still the Papago "women's club champion"

Tell me you're joking right?! WT Actual Hell?!Angry

Woah bloody hell, so the We regret that hurtful language was used. refers to advantage of a male body.

Facts are hurtful USA Today? seriously? FFS

I only read the article today, post editing. It refers to women and girls and transgender athletes. No mention of males. If you weren't up to speed you wouldn't know what the hell she was talking about. Funny how usually it's the word "woman" that gets erased. Unless it's a male that needs protecting by hiding biological fact. Hmm

FindTheTruth · 30/05/2021 08:35

"Tell me you're joking right?"

I wish I had been joking. The fact that nobody in charge of the sport, organising bodies, do not see anything unusual in that, makes me cynically think that they are deliberately looking the other way. I am surprised that none of the young women players have said anything. Mind you, it wouldn't surprise me if they were disciplined for speaking out.
