Sex in tv shows/films becoming more aggressive

Maybe aggressive is the wrong term but while watching 'The Nevers' and Something else the sex scenes included the men putting hands around the women's throats.
These weren't rough sex scenes, or violent sex but supposedly loving relationships.
It has left me feeling very uncomfortable and sad.

This isn't normal sex as far as my experience goes.

This kind of thing is why Normal People stood out head and shoulders above other TV shows - very clear discussion about consent, when the sex was degrading to Marianne it was very obvious that’s what the audience was supposed to think (not that it was sexy or aspirational) and Connell’s distress when she asks him to hit her (iirc) were all handled well. Other aspects of their relationship less so but the sex scenes were done very well. They had an “intimacy coordinator” on set and it showed.
