On Wednesday April the 28th 2021 I received a call from a PC Laura Daley from police scotland requesting i attend an interview for homophobic and transphobic tweets under the milacious communications act.

I was asked to attend that coming Friday, she told me I had to attend East Kilbride police station so I could be then transported to Cathcart police station in a police car because I would have to go to a police station where there is holding cells, I would be then processed, questioned and then most likely charged.

I told her I would not be attending any interview on that day especially with it being a bank holiday weekend because my autistic twins needed me and I was scared I would be held all weekend.

To this she told me she would attend my house with social workers for my boys.

I contacted a solicitor straight away and he was unable to get PC Daley so for the first bank holiday in May I sent my disabled twins away for fear of this officer carrying out this threat.

This absolute nonsense has been hanging over my head for a month, I can barely sleep
or eat and I still don't know what the offending tweet is, my new interview has been scheduled for Thursday the 27th May, I will find out what I am supposed to have said at that point and if I will be indeed charged, again at another bank holiday, I just want to say, anyone who knows me, knows I am not homophobic or transphobic, I am a hard working mummy who would fight to the end for the safety and dignity of women and girls and for my vulnerable twinnies.

If we sit back and do nothing we will regret it for ever. For this reason I will never
Wheesht.

@cervixuser

Glinner said it was this tweet twitter.com/millar_marion/status/1339695997929353217?s=20

evidently someone is suggesting that the ribbon is intended to be a noose

It’s hard to make out what it is but it’s really a far stretch to call it a noose.

Great. That person honestly gives me the chills, regardless of whether the guns are real or not.
Universities in the UK show no scintilla of risk assessment that one day they might need to deal with a grave campus incident that was heavily foreshadowed on someone's SM.

Despite a pattern of similar tweets over months, Brunel Uni has said that they need to investigate whether the student's account was hacked. And, in response to an enquiry from Sonia Poulton they've said they've not removed the student from campus and any further response will await the outcome of police investigation.

[quote ArabellaScott]Marion has been charged. Court date set.

Good. If she didn't post anything that was hate speech, she has nothing to fear and a platform to make her case. A judge will decide if she has something to answer for. Why we have a judiciary.

Really defending hate speech - if it is so, is wrong. But she has the chance to put her case forward that what she tweeted was not. And then that will be tested.

Too much fearmongering and hate, and not enough love and tolerance in my view.

The students face is in some of the tweets. It's astonishing how some of our best University lose the ability to think rationally as soon as the word trans is used.

theThreeofWeevils · 03/06/2021 21:17

Love and tolerance inter alia can fuck right off. In my view.

Neither appears to work in women's favour.

OvaHere · 03/06/2021 21:19

not enough love and tolerance in my view.

We can agree on that. There seems to be none for women and girls right now.

Manderleyagain · 03/06/2021 21:27

Apparently contempt of court rules are v strict in scotland, so we should be careful about passing opinions on what the outcome will be, who the complainants are etc, and anything that could potentially persuade a juror. We don't want to cock things up for anyone.

@ScreamingMeMe

Gruesome twosome.
“Stepping away for self care” sounds like “going for a wank.”

This is what women said would happen with hate crime bill (I know, it's not under that but...). Marion may be found innocent at trial but the stress and expense leading up to it I can't bear to think about.

No words for these people.

It looks much more like the pink ribbon symbol to show support for people living with AIDS.

I'd never call Brunel one of our "best" universities, frankly.

Rhannion · 03/06/2021 21:52

I think Paisley’s late mother would be ashamed of his behavior

Cailleach1 · 03/06/2021 21:58

Could you imagine what an environment Brunel have created for their female students. Just think how safe you'd feel if a male student had advertised that 'they' wanted to shoot at women who didn't believe in gender gender ideology.

You'd effectively think that that the management of Brunel University were ok with women living under the threat of murder for stating facts. Horrible times. I hope their complicity by lack of action is recorded if they don't take action to ensure such violent thugs are removed from the premises.

Yeah. It's just "Beeeee kiiiind" and I've had enough of that shit.

Fucking hell. Just how serious does it have to get for them?

PronounssheRa · 03/06/2021 22:07

At least that student is apparently helping police with enquiries, although if charged, it will be recorded as a female crime. 🤬

Nom binary, I believe.
PronounssheRa · 03/06/2021 22:09

I thought non binary transwomen, so actually who knows how the police will record it.

Oh, aye. 'Nothing to hide, nothing to fear.'

ScreamingMeMe · 03/06/2021 22:23

Being dragged into the police station and then into court is probably more than enough stress for most people.

I have seen it mentioned that it is worth reporting tweets promoting violence such as those up thread to Prevent : @NatCoordPrevent and also to @TerrorismPolice
It seems some branches of the police are monitoring this sort of activity.

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 04/06/2021 00:47

Would be very interesting to know whether any of the (according to the Times) 6 tweets involved had been reported to Twitter before the police complaint or not, and if yes, what the outcome was. (It sounds as though Marion was not aware of any tweets having been reported and had not been asked to remove any?). Also whether the person who complained had blocked or muted her on Twitter.

If the tweets were genuinely hateful, I would have expected them to have been reported on Twitter immediately and for her to have been made to remove them and/or had her account suspended or removed. This could then have avoided the need for any police involvement. If they were never reported, or were reported but Twitter found them harmless, that would seem to weaken the case.

Similarly if the complainant found them personally hateful or felt harassed, an obvious first step would have been to block out at least mute her account. Not doing so (or doing so but then searching out the tweets in question by other means) would suggest they were more interested in continuing to monitor her posts than avoiding potentially hurtful content...
