On Wednesday April the 28th 2021 I received a call from a PC Laura Daley from police scotland requesting i attend an interview for homophobic and transphobic tweets under the milacious communications act.

I was asked to attend that coming Friday, she told me I had to attend East Kilbride police station so I could be then transported to Cathcart police station in a police car because I would have to go to a police station where there is holding cells, I would be then processed, questioned and then most likely charged.

I told her I would not be attending any interview on that day especially with it being a bank holiday weekend because my autistic twins needed me and I was scared I would be held all weekend.

To this she told me she would attend my house with social workers for my boys.

I contacted a solicitor straight away and he was unable to get PC Daley so for the first bank holiday in May I sent my disabled twins away for fear of this officer carrying out this threat.

This absolute nonsense has been hanging over my head for a month, I can barely sleep
or eat and I still don't know what the offending tweet is, my new interview has been scheduled for Thursday the 27th May, I will find out what I am supposed to have said at that point and if I will be indeed charged, again at another bank holiday, I just want to say, anyone who knows me, knows I am not homophobic or transphobic, I am a hard working mummy who would fight to the end for the safety and dignity of women and girls and for my vulnerable twinnies.

If we sit back and do nothing we will regret it for ever. For this reason I will never
Wheesht.

@Cailin66

Where can one buy those Suffrage ribbons. Probably should be tied to all the trees around the police station.
Easiest way is to buy three rolls of ribbon in purple, green and white. Cut to size then pin or tie.

Careful the haberdashery police don't catch you though!

I have to say I didn't order all my ribbons from the same place.

Ordering green, white and purple ribbons all at once might mark you out.

Smile
ArabellaScott · 03/06/2021 17:58

It sounds like I'm joking. I'm actually not.

Grellbunt · 03/06/2021 17:58

MM has been quite critical of the First Minister in the past....just noting that.

Wakaranaihito · 03/06/2021 18:00

Stupid, stupid people - they are just creating Martyrs. Peaking Britain one news story at a time.

@nauticant

Andrea Cachia does have some support at Brunel:

I'm not sure what's more of a problem, dismissing credible threats of violence or the spelling.

That's absolutely absurd. How can these people believe reporting a trans person to the police for a justifiable reason and it being rightfully investigated as a result completely negates an organisation's support for trans rights as a whole? An "edgy joke" I don't bloody think. Especially not in the light of what's happening to Marion.

@BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted

“Men aren’t women tho” is what got Meghan Murphy’s Twitter account hosed. If memory serves Glinner was turfed for saying “Groomer”, not without some justification

I have one of those suffragette-coloured ribbons, acquired (I think) at one of the We Need to Talk meetings I attended. I’ll be wearing it every day now for Marion. I live quite far away from Glasgow but I’m giving very serious consideration to attending.

He quote tweeted the WI with "men aren't women tho" I think Meghan was "that's him" about JY
BraveBananaBadge · 03/06/2021 18:05

And there are just no words for Paisley. He's abhorrent. Dropping a bomb like this and retiring to the fainting couch in private to avoid the fallout.

InvisibleDragon · 03/06/2021 18:08

A ribbon? That is ridiculous.

Aside from that, I am fuming that Brunel have said that any further action they take regarding their student will be dependent on what the police say.

So many women in academia have been hauled over the coals for liking J K Rowling tweets and tweets in support of Maya Forstater etc. Entirely non-criminal activities have had profoundly real professional consequences. But when a student with a ?BB gun makes threats towards women, they wait to see what the police say first, before deciding whether it's acceptable or not? The double standards are astounding.

If I were a woman at Brunel I would not feel safe.

Goodness.

If I’m going to mix my metaphors then it certainly seems like the whole house of cards is on a shoogly peg to resort to this.

ScreamingMeMe · 03/06/2021 18:33

Gruesome twosome.

IME (of disciplinary action at a university) if a student complains then the university has to do something - for example, Ms Keogh, the law student at Abertay - was the subject of a complaint from fellow students. (Make of that what you wish).

The double standards are that feminists - and feminist academics - very rarely make parallel complaints. It would take a student or member of staff at Brunel to make a complaint. And we don't tend to, because we're not cunts. We're educators. It's our job to model adulting.

And also - think about how Ms Sánchez at the University of Bristol is being treated - classic DARVO - she complained, and was interrogated & put through it, rather than her harasser.

IntoAir · 03/06/2021 18:45

Sorry, should have added: maybe we need to complain & dox & whine in the same way as TRAs. But I think such actions would end - differently.

As we see in Ms Millar's case.

Bollockstothat · 03/06/2021 18:46

Quite. The student is presenting as a danger to women and should be expelled whatever the outcome of the police investigation. If Brunel don't take meaningful action against someone who has obviously breached university regulations on student conduct, then students and academics need to start boycotting it. I'm an academic and will not be attending any conferences there, accepting any invitations to speak there, act as external examiner, or have anything else to do with the university until I'm satisfied that it's safe to do so. I'll be encouraging my GC colleagues to do the same.

@cervixuser

Glinner said it was this tweet twitter.com/millar_marion/status/1339695997929353217?s=20

evidently someone is suggesting that the ribbon is intended to be a noose

what now? that's completely bonkers if true

Repeated from the other thread

PLEASE PLEASE stop speculating on the motives of the possible tweet reporter. This is a legal case and I think Scots Law is even stricter on sub-judice than English Law.

We can talk generally about the tweet being reported and the worrying precedent these sorts of reports set.

Do not discuss the individual who reported in a negative way or the thread will have to go. Also be very careful what you tweet about the case.

This man - a freelance journalist - reported the gun pics to the police and Brunel University. Think he's on the level, as he also posted the crime reference number.

Great. That person honestly gives me the chills, regardless of whether the guns are real or not.

Yes - I noticed that. And Humza Yousaf. Plus being so closely linked to FWS...

I would provide an opinion about that...
