Where do feminists hang out in Leeds?

I’m moving to Leeds next week (so excited!) after living in the arse end of Surrey for the past 18 years. I really miss having normal conversations with women about the stuff that concerns us and would love to join a women’s group or something similar. When I used to live in Leeds in the 1980s I was heavily involved in women’s activism. Can anyone suggest where to start?

Could try Leeds Spinners. They have a Facebook page and Twitter account.

Thank you - I did think of them. I’m not on Facebook or Twitter but I’m sure they’ll be contactable in some other way.

Maybe it’s not really a thing now to be part of a group and that most activism is online now.

I would say it's the opposite OP, in person groups are more important than ever but yes there is plenty of action online.

Get settled and search on here as I think they have been threads on this before for Leeds but I could be wrong.

Good luck with the move!

That sounds positive OhHolyJesus.

You’re right, I should get settled first - just been living in a political desert for so long I can’t wait to get going again!

If I can find some like-minded women with whom I don’t have to police my language in a conversation in the pub, that would be wonderful.

Did you find a group to join in Leeds @Warmduscher?

I've lived here a long time and it's about time I joined an in person group and went up a gear with my feminism!

Would also be interested to know this!
Please update if you're able to?

Warmduscher · 14/04/2023 21:35

Yes! I joined a great group of women’s rights activists and my feet haven’t touched the ground since! DM me if you want more details :)

Leeds has been wokesville for ages, but there are groups which do actions and must have a presence . I think more women are meeting in real life but they don’t advertise publicly so as not to attract the men…

Fantastic! So glad to see you replied!

BKingso · 14/04/2023 21:52

... I'll have to log on to mumsnet from my laptop tomorrow I normally only use the app. When I'm logged in I can DM you.
