It seems that both Spain yesterday and Germany today. I have not got any links to share. It came up on social media while on bus, but I cannot find the post again now for you to see.

The Spanish one is being celebrated, there was a vote and it didn't past. The socialist abstain! It was called the Irene Montero's Law and it was discussed here a while back.

Couldn't read the one about Germany, maybe some of you have more news.

Yes very good news from the Continent which is often celebrated for its mixed sex facilities by some on these threads. Feel very cheered tonight

Wise and sensible legislators who realise you can't protect women and girls if anyone who says they are a woman (transitioned, or not at all) is recognised as a woman in law and cannot be challenged in spaces assigned to females. Self-ID would mean anyone who said "I'm a woman" could take advantage of women's facilities.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 20/05/2021 00:16

Has it been shelved completely?

How votes cast.

somethinginoffensive · 20/05/2021 00:24

Woohoo!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/05/2021 00:30

Well done Spain and Germany. Hopefully this will spread to other countries.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 20/05/2021 00:49

This is only a temporary pause.

@Whatsnewpussyhat

This is only a temporary pause.
The poster is saying women must not stop fighting, but the size of those votes indicates there is significant opposition, which has to be a good thing. I hope it gets publicity and that it has an effect on the vote in September. For now, I feel cautiously optimistic.
BlackForestCake · 20/05/2021 06:56

The draft German bill was particularly extreme IIRC, it would have allowed genital surgery on 14-year-olds without parental consent.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 20/05/2021 07:40

What is wrong with the Greens internationally? Have they just given up on saving the planet and gone for the whole gender thing?

FannyCann · 20/05/2021 08:10

It's bizarre isn't it toffeebutterpopcorn
I can't remember when I last heard of the greens saying anything about the environment. Must have missed it I suppose.

FannyCann · 20/05/2021 08:14

Does anyone have a link to information re Spain? DD is working there and still chuntering about intersectional feminism including men even though she does accept they don't get the full female experience like her rotten periods. I like to send her the odd useful link....

purpleboy · 20/05/2021 08:45

Fanny I've a link here but it's in Spanish I'm afraid

Thanks purpleboy
She should be able to loosely translate or get help if she will bother. Hmm

It feels like they only identify as a party concerned about the environment.

It’s particularly deceptive many people vote for them because they are concerned about the environment.

Irishmom7 · 20/05/2021 09:48

I voted greens for twenty years. They have lost a life long voter in me.

InspiralCoalescenceRingdown · 20/05/2021 10:01

That's not fair, the Greens self-identify as being concerned about the environment. Grin

Beaten to it!

franke · 20/05/2021 10:34

In Germany the Greens have a shiny new leader and polls suggest people are looking for change in the current government. What people seem to be overlooking is the rather authoritarian nature of the Greens. I find them frightening and I won't be voting for them.

MondayYogurt · 20/05/2021 13:34

Once an ideology becomes mainstream, any group purporting to represent that idea has to broaden policies or be left behind.
So we see Stonewall mutating into a trans rights org, and the greens eschewing the environment in favour of thought policing.

newnortherner111 · 20/05/2021 18:44

I have stopped voting Green because of their policy on self ID.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 20/05/2021 18:55

They should be called ‘I can’t believe it’s not science’.
