“Giving away” at weddings - anyone done something different?

Coming under some (kindly meant) pressure to have my dad give me away at my wedding. I won’t be doing that for obvious reasons but I’m trying to think of alternatives - come up the aisle alone? Both parents? Me and DP swing in on trapezes? Just wondering how other feminists have handled it.

This might work better at a reception.

The CofE ceremony has an alternative option to 'giving away' where both sets of parents are asked for their blessing on the marriage - we did this.

We did a version of this in our ceremony in the US Episcopal Church, which is part of the Anglican Communion lead by the CofE.

I was independent and old enough not to want to be given away, however, I feel whomever walked me up the aisle wasn't signifying that, and the wording in the CofE service was 'who brings this woman' so I was quite happy for it to be my Dad. He was my biggest influence (in a lovely, positive way) on my life thus far so I wouldn't have chosen anyone differently.

I also referred the point about not being given away later when I made my speech Grin
