Instagram has added pronouns (sigh)

This week, Instagram added a pronouns field to profiles. It's not available to all yet. It's brought gender ideology to my door and I was wondering how others felt about it. Ive already seen a few colleagues post about it and encourage it as "respectful". The news articles I've seen talk about "normalising" it and signalling that you're an ally. I think a lot of people will do it & it's an area where I work. I think it's a load of woke bollocks that's actually quite insidious. I am seeing more and more people add pronouns to their email and social media profiles. I won't be doing that - how do you answer the inevitable questions and how do you encourage people to actually think about what's behind pronouns?

@DemisRoussoss

I looked and my heart sank to see that someone I like and respect very much has added hers. She’s a lovely person and means well, I don’t know if she actually believes that she’s being kind or if it’s performative?
I saw that today as well from someone who has a big stake in being kind. She quoted Stonewall. Buying into it wholesale.

I tried, but it doesn't recognise I, me and mine as pronouns. How odd - they definitely are! Confused

I didn't have a clue what it meant!! Thank you for clarifying Grin

Is it compulsory?
Surely you can just not put them if you don't want to?
I haven't added them as personally don't feel the need, but can completely understand why people do.
Whether that's because are trans, or allies making it more normal for others to do so.
Personal choice, isn't it.
I don't get why others are so bothered about others choices and rip the piss out of them etc.
So somebody non binary puts their pronouns as they or whatever - so what?
Does not affect me in the slightest.

No, not compulsory. You've been on this site for a while I think - I'm sure you know the background and how gender pronouns fit in with gender ideology. How long before not adding pronouns is seen as wrongthink and pressure applied?
