Just seen this via Twitter:

“If you’ve ever dreamed of becoming a writer but not had the access or confidence to pursue it, we’re about to make your day. To find the next group of exciting new voices, we are launching The Stylist Prize for Feminist Fiction alongside our Literary Festival. We want to find original, innovative female talent, whose voices resonate with us and make sense of the world around us, regardless of genre or experience or age. To create this prize, we are partnering with Rachel Mills Literary Agency (RML) whose clients include Elizabeth Day, Pandora Sykes, Jing-Jing Lee, Ayisha Malik and Bryony Gordon.”

T&C state “Entrants must be 18 and over and must be female or identify as such.”

Brilliant! I identify as innovative and talented. So I'l let them know I'm identifying as the winner of their prize. I'm sure they won't be bigoted enough to mis-recognise me.

I'll share the prize money with you, CaveMum.

I'll lend you my megaphone, it really makes your voice resonate. 📣

Thelnebriati · 10/05/2021 22:03

Why did it turn blue, are you swearing?

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 10/05/2021 22:10

Well we didn’t keep the word female very long did we

SmallPug · 11/05/2021 05:56

Stylist and the judges of the prize are all TWAW. The agent involved said that the objection to Torrey Peters being long listed for the women's prize was the same as racial segregation. The editor who is also judging co-founded the "feminist book club" which is "inclusive" and "kind". Another co-founder of that book club works for the women's prize and is likely a key player in why they opened up the prize and the brother of that same person works at the guardian and signed the letter of denouncement against Suzanne Moore. They don't know what feminism is.

Yeah, how does one 'identify' as female?
thinkingaboutLangCleg · 11/05/2021 06:28

Why do they bother to call themselves feminist? It’s not a fashionable thing to be, or to pretend to be.

justawoman76 · 11/05/2021 06:48

What is the ACTUAL point in have categories of any kind then? If we can identify in and out of them at will, the whole notion of anything being separate is redundant. Womens prize is open to men. FEMINIST prize open to men. How can they know what it is to be a feminist when they have a lived experience as a male? It's like me entering my cat in the fluffiest dog competition. Categories are there for a reason.

SunsetBeetch · 11/05/2021 09:16

Fucking ridiculous. This award is absolutely pointless.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 11/05/2021 09:44

I was a wee bit ....ok TWAW they can have women as to me its a bit more of a ‘social’ term (that was ages ago...no one yell at me)

But obviously female is a scientific term describing something in particular which works across the whole of the animal kingdom so we’ll keep that

Silly me 😒

And if we all embrace cis?

No prizes for guessing what will happen (and what has already happened)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/05/2021 10:26

Because their faux, unthreatening to men, cool girl DARVO version is fashionable.

OvaHere · 11/05/2021 10:40

To be honest I think all fiction prizes are a bit rubbish to some extent. Some of the worst/most dull books I've ever read are those that have been shortlisted for one prize or another.

I wonder why you have to be over 18? If a man can identify as female for the purpose of submission why gate keep age? There might be some great 16 year old writers who deserve a shot.

For Stylist and their ilk, it's a branding thing used to sell stuff. Someone must have flogged them my contact details because I randomly used to get daily emails from them (until the irritation became unbearable and I unsubscribed) and their remit seems to be to target women with a daily list of 'must have' things. T-shirts and necklaces bearing the word 'feminist' featured regularly.

newrubylane · 11/05/2021 11:23

"Women have always had to be resilient in societies which overlooked them, undervalued them and increasingly disenfranchised them. But even as we have found ourselves removed from the world, we have always found a way to vocalise and challenge our place within it. "

The irony.

YY. Stylist is fluffy corporate wank targeted at young middle class women.

Swimminglanes · 11/05/2021 16:09

fluffy corporate wank

I just looked at the Stylist website to see what it was about and a chat box opened up and asked me for three words I would use to describe the site.

I hadn't seen this post then!

Misiecle · 11/05/2021 19:49

I just spent a very satisfactory two minutes filling out their online survey about what I thought of the website and what was wrong with it. Feeling much better. Probably won't do any good but might make someone laugh when they open it.

What a load of utter bollocks

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/05/2021 14:03

We don't need any new comedy to be honest. Gender identity ideology is beyond parody.

WinterTrees · 12/05/2021 14:11

And women are kind of ploughing their efforts into fighting to hold onto the right to define themselves and keep men out of their prisons, hospital wards and refuges. 'New comedy' isn't a priority mate.

You'll have to ask Gamergaters and Ben Shapiro about that, hun. You're on Mumsnet, a parenting forum predominantly populated by women in the U.K.
