Is anyone attempting to follow the undercover policing inquiry.

Apparently the first of 27 women deceived into a sexual relationship is to give her evidence today.

"Day 13 at the #SpyCopsInquiry: Today we'll be hearing from "Madeleine" who was deceived into a relationship with officer Vince Miller

She is the first woman tricked into sleeping with an undercover to give oral evidence to the inquiry"

For anyone interested here is Madeleine's written statement...

I heard one of these women on Radio 4 the other week. Really shocking stuff. I'm surprised it's not getting more publicity.

I’m surprised too. Kate Wilson (one of the women involved) referred to it as “the most private "public inquiry" in history”. I think she has a point!

Guardian article re Madeleine’s evidence yesterday…

Madeleine said that she would have been devastated if she had discovered the truth about him at the time. “I trusted him … it would have been an absolute betrayal … I know that I would have regarded, as I do regard it now, as rape”.

Thanks for posting. I also hadn't realised this was happening.

Is it always women that this is done to? Have they ever targeted a man with a fake relationship?

Nope! Funny that.

One reason (and I hope it emerges here) is that the risk assessment for such an operation factors in the danger of the officer being killed if the target were to find out.

Thanks for the reminder, OP. This should be a much bigger scandal than it is.

Yes. The fact that this is sexual abuse of women organised and sanctioned by a state run institution. And there don't appear to have been any repercussions for those involved. If you want to talk about institutionalised misogyny then this is it.

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/may/07/spy-cops-joked-about-sexual-relationships-with-women-inquiry-told

A former undercover police officer has told a public inquiry that his colleagues made “gross and offensive” jokes about the women they were deceiving into having sexual relationships.

The officer, Graham Coates, said the jokes and banter were said in the presence of managers who knew about the relationships but deliberately turned a blind eye.

He said the attitude among the officers to the relationships “could best be summed up as “good on you”, “well done”, “go for it”.”

Coates is the first undercover officer who has testified to the inquiry that the managers of the police spies knew they were forming relationships with women during their deployments.

Thank you for the heads up, I didn't know this was on at the moment.

Thanks for this thread.

A cynic might say this is being kept low key because they are still active.

There were female spycops but afaik the inquiry has only named one so far.

AnyOldPrion · 16/05/2021 22:36

27 women? That’s sickening. I hope they get some kind of justice.
