Feeling despondent.

Watching the results map of Scotland start to turn yellow.

Sad

Anyone else want to sit in a corner and cry with me?

I didn't really expect anything else though and I've no idea what colour I would actually want it to turn! But every bit of yellow seems to say "women don't matter".

The worst bit is watching smug white bearded men gloating about it

ArabellaScott · 07/05/2021 17:33

It was always going to be lots of SNP wins.

Take heart. Sunlight is slow, but coming.

EdinburghFeminist · 07/05/2021 17:37

Yup. I feel the same. I had really hoped the message would be heard somehow.

WomaninBoots · 07/05/2021 17:39

Yup. My other Internet spaces are very independence at any cost. I'm not sure either way about independence but I damn sure know that we shouldn't be putting men in women's prisons! Confused

Plus the bloody hate crime bill!

I'm with Arabella on this one. The situation is so much better than it was - mainly thanks to the fabulous For Women Scot and their trusty crew, plus of course some courageous female politicians. It was all happening behind closed doors with hardly anyone noticing. Now it's more and more out in the open and more and more women are fighting back. Same here in Wales and there's no way we are going to get back in our box now that we are out of it. Take heart!

BlackForestCake · 07/05/2021 17:44

It's really bad for women. Joan McAlpine is probably going to lose her seat, Alba looks like getting

BuffysBigSister · 07/05/2021 17:45

I confess I am feeling despondent this week. We seem to take one step forward and then two back.

SolitaryBee · 07/05/2021 17:55

Very depressed. At the point of why protest? I have another 20ish years of this shit show and then I will be gone. If this is what millennial women and those that follow want then who am to complain? I will never believe that growing your hair long, putting on a dress and some lipstick is what defines a women but I am clearly out of step with this century.

I think what you just quoted is Drag.

Not transexualism.

I'm very despondent but not for the same reason as you. The "gender critical" stuff has no bearing on my vote.

No watching Sturgeon gloating is worse.
WomaninBoots · 07/05/2021 18:42

My concern definitely runs deeper than the GC stuff to be realy honest. I'm not a fan of authoritarianism either. Or any flavour of nationalism. Or whatever the stunt with the "ring fenced" cash was.

ArabellaScott · 07/05/2021 18:54

Yep, I'm worried about independence and the SNPs rule for far more reasons than women's rights.

ArabellaScott · 07/05/2021 18:56

The trouble in Scotland is that we have no credible opposition.

QuentinBunbury · 07/05/2021 19:03

I'm despondent about the Conservative performance South of the border. Seems lying, philandering, corruption and sleaze don't matter any more. As well as policies that do nothing for the most disadvantaged. I hate them and what they've done to Britain, seems I am very much in the minority though

BlackForestCake · 07/05/2021 19:03

I can agree with that. Labour collapsed because it was in power so long that it attracted all the carpetbaggers, time-servers and yes-men, and everybody knew it. It's only taken 10 years for the carpetbaggers to take over the SNP too.

Talking of carpetbaggers, Angus Robertson has won the seat the party gerrymandered him into.

QuentinBunbury · 07/05/2021 19:07

Just seen this on the BBC

Almost hoping for the SNP to get a majority so at least they're not dependent on the fucking Greens

theskyispink · 07/05/2021 21:05

This election was always going to be a dud - a big win for the SNP has aye been on the cards.

Alba is so new and has already been monstered by the mainstream media so I don't think they have a chance of getting in anywhere. But hopefully they stick around and gain momentum over the next few years to become a credible pro-indy opposition party, because it is badly needed.

As @BlackForestCake says, will the SNP require the wokebeards in the Greens to play kingmaker? That's the big question for this election. Agreed also about how rapidly the carpetbaggers swarmed and swelled the SNP ranks -- but perhaps part of it is due to the nature of us being a smaller country?

Interesting to see the remarks from Khalid Mahmood, not shying from the real reasons behind Labour's downward spiral. An astute comment that the newcomers have more in common with Californian high society -- but I suppose that's what you get after raising a generation online to be nurtured by Silicone Valley.

Easier though it would be, this ideology won't be dismantled with a wave of a wand by votes at an election. It'll be hard work and behind-the-scenes legal processes that change things, the way they have always underpinned change within this movement. Sunlight is seeping through, and with For Women Scotland and MBM doing incredible work, there can only be more sunlight in the future.

Oh, god, that aspect hadn't occurred to me.
CatherinaJTV · 07/05/2021 22:04

looks like the most likely outcome now Smile

MissBarbary · 07/05/2021 22:17

My delight that Alba looks as if it will be a damp squib is countered by the horror the Greens holding the balance of power.
