Who here would have voted for Sadiq as London Mayor if he supported single sex spaces for Londoners?

I certainly would, and would have really liked to vote for him but just couldn’t do it given how he has approached this issue - ie avoided even discussing the impact on women.

It’s looking close very surprisingly between him and the Tory candidate,

@SmallPug

Do we actually know Binface's stance on women?
No, though he seems to have a thing for Phoebe Waller Bridge. He is, however, sound on hand dryers, which is how he got my vote.
AffronttoGender · 07/05/2021 21:48

I can’t understand why anyone would vote for him. He has been an absolute disaster for London.

OneEpisode · 07/05/2021 22:05

I didn’t get to vote for Binface but “Nationalising model railways and Adele” makes a lot more sense than TWAW.

newnortherner111 · 07/05/2021 22:20

I would not have done, but it was the reason why I did not vote for Sian Berry.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 07/05/2021 22:30

Yes. Giving away our single-sex spaces is a deal-breaker for me. And if he’s not actively defending them, he is allowing them to be given away.

@SmallPug

Do we actually know Binface's stance on women?
Yes- it's rubbish.....
CthulhuChristmas · 07/05/2021 23:34

I would have. I've never voted Labour before, but I'd vote for any mainstream party willing to stand up for women's rights and material reality. It's that important.

I voted Binface/Bailey. AFAIK Count Binface hasn't made any statements on women's rights but did say on Twitter that he supports academic freedom!

thepuredrop · 07/05/2021 23:59

Yes- it's rubbish.....

Enough of your trash talk, @Artesia

CourageCallsToMe · 08/05/2021 00:02

I would have, but Count Binface got my vote instead

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 08/05/2021 00:07

I'm gutted if it's true about S Khan and women's rights. Have I missed something? Can't find it on-line.

I'm not a Labour voter but voted for him because of his cycle lanes and LTNs etc...and getting cars out of London.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 08/05/2021 00:13

Yes me: voted for him last time and this time he didn’t even get my second vote.

stumbledin · 08/05/2021 00:35

I think even if it is close that Khan will get in as a lot of people who might have done a sort of fantasy vote for their first choice will stick to tradition and go Labour.

What is so extraordinary is how Boris didn't campaign for the Tory candidate. Many people commentated how Shaun Bailey was basically being snubbed by Tory HQ. I think it is about some underlying racism in the Tory party and Boris' ego, that he wants to maintain the record as the only Tory mayor of London. Whereas he could have had the most amazing coup for the Tories if they got a Tory mayor into Labour London!

And by the way one of the reasons I didn't vote for Khan (apart from the failure to support women's rights) is the appalling elitiest anti democrat introduction of LTNs and cycle routes which serve no purpose other than to buy the votes of white middle class elitists.

They have had the most appalling divisive impact on communities, and particularly harmed women, BME communities, the old and disabled. And worst of all have been implemented in an undemocratic way and consequently are being challenged through judicial review for those who can afford to do it.

And never, ever forget that because a few people might benefit from less pollution on their streets it just means other streets will be worse. Particularly red routes. And who lives on them? Poorer families.

So every time someone crows about how wonderful it is for them you are probably contributing to there being more and more Ella Adoo-Kissi-Debrah.

I couldn't agree more. This is exactly why i didn't vote for Khan, who has refused to even discuss the LTN issue locally. I couldn't bring myself to vote Tory, or for anyone failing to support women's rights, so spoilt my vote.
NiceGerbil · 08/05/2021 03:29

I went khan first. I like him. And in the end I don't want the Tories in. They've already got their hooks into tfl because of covid etc.

Went binface second. Shame his policies aren't better. He's no lord sutch.

pheebumbalatti · 08/05/2021 04:25

Oh yes, there are packs of transgenders roaming the streets , taking away "women's spaces"! Such a hot button issue that everyone cares about.

If a politician doesn't believe in reality, they don't get my vote. If a politician doesn't support women's rights, they don't get my vote. If a politician thinks that being a woman is a costume or an idea in a male human's head, they don't get my vote. If a politician chants mantras that they don't understand, they don't get my vote. If a politician pretends not to understand what sex is, and muddles it with "gender", they don't get my vote. If a politician demonstrates that ideology is more important than what's true and what's right, they don't get my vote. If I can see that a politician would be prepared to say 2+2=5 if it suited them politically, they don't get my vote. If they're prepared to do all of the above, what else might they be prepared to sacrifice to win votes?
PaleGreenGhost · 08/05/2021 06:43

Me.

I've voted for him in the past. But this year none of our household voted for him.

We have had mixed sex changing in the council pools for a very long time round here, despite the fact the incidents it brings (voyeurs with phones etc) making local news.

Cwenthryth · 08/05/2021 07:06

Yes, I’d have given him my 2nd choice vote if he’d made a clear statement in support of women, or possibly shown any understanding of or willingness to engage on the issue of single sex spaces at all, rather than just parroting mantras. I suspect he has little interest in the matter and doesn’t think it’s that important.

Combined with his appalling (lack of) handling of crime in the city, his detrimental impact on the police, and the way he has gone about things like LTNs and ULEZ expansion - not listening to the less advantaged people that these impact negatively the most - meant it was a no from me.

When I went to bed it was Kahn 40% and Bailey 35%, this morning it is Kahn 39% and Bailey 38%, it’s shifting all the time as more votes come in, but I am surprised how close it is - it seems incredibly unlikely that Kahn will suddenly rise to above 50% over the day, so looks like those second choice votes are going to come into play!

Cwenthryth · 08/05/2021 07:17

Not that it matters now, as you’ve voted for a forerunner 1st choice so that’s your vote, but there’s no point in voting for a minority candidate 2nd choice. The 2nd choice votes only come into play if no single candidate gets >50% of first choice votes. Then, all but the top 2 are eliminated, and any 2nd choice votes for the top 2 are added to their first choice votes. The system means you can express your preference for a first choice candidate that has no hope of winning (but to signal to the winner, these policies are important to me), but then still have a say in choosing between Labour and Conservative (realistically) if they’re both on less than 50%.

I suspect this election a lot of people have voted for minority candidates first choice (well, so far, about 33%). So whether they then cast second choice votes for Kahn or Bailey is gong to be key....if nothing else this is a good test of the electorate’s understanding of how the voting system works!!

ValancyRedfern · 08/05/2021 07:35

Me. I was going to spoil my ballot, but dd asked me to vote for the animal rights candidate, so I did that for her. Binface was my second vote.

Trixie78 · 08/05/2021 07:38

@persistentwoman

Won't vote for creepy men who insist that women have no right to boundaries - ever.
This goes for me too 👍

toffeebutterpopcorn · 08/05/2021 08:36

I find his manner patronising and he appears to be deaf and dismissive of women’s concerns.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 08/05/2021 08:48

I voted for the SDP purely because of their policy on single-sex spaces etc.

Me too.

Boohooyouho · 08/05/2021 08:51

I voted for Khan regardless. As a household where the two adults work for tfl we are terrified of bailey getting in. His entire campaign seemed to be look how bad Khan is. Not, this is what I’ll do.
