Women's law project

There's been a suggestion on twitter that a "Women's Law Project" would be a good idea. A central body that women can support, that would take on important strategic cases - like the fox killers Good Law project but for women.

The legal feminist collective are looking at it:

This seems like a great, and much needed project and I would certainly dig for this if it happened.

I thought I should start a thread so that they can see the sort of support they would have.

I’d support this too. Much needed.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 07/05/2021 07:42

Makes sense. Sadly it makes sense.

It’s 2021 now, right (not 1721?)

geojellyfish · 07/05/2021 07:43

Well with the cases we've seen go through the courts over recent years, and some of the judgements, I agree it's becoming increasingly clear that we need to challenge the way laws are applied on a tremendous scale.

I would certainly support!

PronounssheRa · 07/05/2021 07:44

This sounds really interesting. Women have shown they can financially support legal action.

SelfPortraitWithEels · 07/05/2021 07:50

Yep. I'd donate to that.

Helleofabore · 07/05/2021 07:52

Yes. It might be the time for this to happen.

Beamur · 07/05/2021 07:56

That sounds like a good idea. Maybe they could strategically decide what cases to pick to strengthen the case law around.

NellieEllie · 07/05/2021 07:58

Definitely a good idea. So much going on that needs to be challenged.

Sacreblue · 07/05/2021 07:59

A women’s law project sounds invaluable rn and even on my meagre income I would dig for one.

ASpoonfulofDust · 07/05/2021 08:00

Sounds very useful. Someone needs to address the shamefully light sentences for pedophiles and the seeming decriminalisation of rape, and the menz ain't doing it.

terryleather · 07/05/2021 08:08

I'd dig for this too, sounds like a very good idea.

Sophoclesthefox · 07/05/2021 08:11

I would absolutely donate to this.

It is quite bonkers that it’s needed, but it really is.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 07/05/2021 08:13

I’d want to see their objectives. But yes, that feels like something I’d dig for monthly, as I do now for women’s justice

sessell · 07/05/2021 09:30

Brilliant idea. I would support it with a monthly direct debit. It is so needed - to fight strategic cases and also to keep the light shining on the institutional nature of misogyny in our justice system. Fawcett and luxury feminism have had their day.

CrossPurposes · 07/05/2021 09:32

My Fawcett membership money is available for reallocation...

OneCalamerra · 07/05/2021 09:41

Absolutely. I’m a former lawyer (non-practising now) and would love to be involved.

HecatesCatsInFancyHats · 07/05/2021 09:45

Yes, yes, yes!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 07/05/2021 10:05

I am also a lawyer and agree with the idea. We need to make sure it covers Scotland and Scots law as well as they have a tough battle ahead.

Fernlake · 07/05/2021 10:10

Definitely. I would set up a direct debit.

fishareboring · 07/05/2021 10:12

Yes. Absolutely.

Siablue · 07/05/2021 10:12

That sounds quite similar to what the centre for women’s justice already do. Perhaps there could be more link up.

Igmum · 07/05/2021 10:12

Yes absolutely. We NEED this. Frankly we also need a separate body that is not the EHRC to represent women and girls. I would dig for this

NonnyMouse1337 · 07/05/2021 10:13

It's a great idea and would pool resources and legal expertise. I'd definitely set up a direct debit.

purpleboy · 07/05/2021 10:15

I would absolutely support this, there is much to fight right now.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 07/05/2021 10:21

I'd support a Women's Law Project - these bits and pieces have got to stop.
