Given the landslide in Hartlepool, will anything make Labour think again about the way in which they've alienated their core voters (including women)?

It is simply an attempt to understand and interpret the facts as they emerge into the public domain

Reading some of the Messages of contributors to this thread concerning events to date, there are references to the contradictory statements that have been made but then follows condemnation of Kate Hollern M.P. without seeming to recognise that there are several accounts of what occurred and as a consequence there is context and questions are raised and at this point in time evidence remains to be heard

It is astonishing that upon learning of rumours concerning a sexual relationship between Andrew Bridgen M.P. and the complainant in this case - Ms. A. - the officials of the Labour Party did not pursue an investigation which may produce a reasonable doubt in the case against Mike Hill and implicate a political opponent but instead advised a Conservative to extricate himself from a delicate situation which could harm his career and personal life

It is curious that 36 hours have passed since Kate Hollern resigned from her post in the Shadow Cabinet and issued a communication with attached apology to Andrew Bridgen if he was led to believe that she was attempting to dissuade him from helping Ms. A. whereas the actual intention was the preservation of his job and his reputation and perhaps his marriage but he has not apparently commented on the salient point that remains to be addressed - the rumours that he and the plaintiff in the case were conducting an affair

It is a matter for the people at Mumsnet HQ to decide if we have transgressed in commenting on this case and if that is the adjudication then all pertinent Messages should be deleted and in that connection settling on this Forum the question of the identity of the victim in this dreadful situation may be infringing upon a determination that is to be made by the Tribunal

Have no idea about the details of this case but Andrew Bridgen is without doubt the most stupid person in Parliament, and that’s saying something.
He said live on the radio in 2018 that any British citizen was entitled to an Irish passport.

ThursdayWeld · 14/05/2021 10:24

Oh to be sure, he's dreadful. But @VELVETCLOUD's implication seemed to be that a woman who was in a relationship with him couldn't possibly have been subjected to sexual abuse by someone else Hmm

borntobequiet · 14/05/2021 10:32

I actually couldn’t wade through those lengthy posts and thought I’d wait until I saw it more succinctly explained somewhere.

It proved not possible to post any Message on 14 and 15 May for which many apologies

We have been superseded somewhat by events

Mike Hill has admitted to the lust he had for Ms. A. and perhaps a few more emotions but he is saying currently that he accepted that she did not reciprocate his desires and passions and they proceeded for a time with a professional relationship

Mike Hill continues to deny a number of allegations regarding his behaviour towards Ms. A.

Ms. A. does not - and should not - face any questions related at all to her sexual history but there are issues concerning her judgment

Ms. A. says that she had spoken to Kate Hollern regarding the behaviour of Mike Hill

It should require Kate Hollern to appear before the Tribunal and answer for the actions she took in respect of the allegations made by Ms.A.

Kate Hollern admits to a conversation in which she advised Andrew Bridgen regarding rumours that he was involved in a sexual relationship with Ms. A.

It is the first lesson taught to aspiring Conservative candidates for any elected position that they must divert, distract, mis-direct,
mislead, obfuscate, evade and if necessary dissemble

We have been concentrating for several days on Andrew Bridgen being deterred from helping Ms. A. because of a supposed threat issued to him by Kate Hollern who was forced to resign from her post amid accusations of attempting to interfere in the matter

It is a tactic that has taken the attention from the rumours of a sexual relationship between Andrew Bridgen and Ms. A.

Working in Parliament, it could not have been difficult for Ms. A. to approach any number of female Conservatives sitting in the Commons and the Lords who happen to be Solicitors, Barristers, eminent Q.Cs and Judges and would have been willing to assist in pursuit of allegations of sexual harassment against Mike Hill

Ms. A. selects Andrew Bridgen who is male and is not a member of the legal profession

Andrew Bridgen needed to have taken not more than a day to introduce Ms. A. to a female Conservative sitting in Parliament and
willing to assist in pursuit of allegations of sexual harassment against Mike Hill

Andrew Bridgen was devoting evidently so much time to the case of Ms. A. that the Westminster rumour-mill began turning and he had the conversation with Kate Hollern

Andrew Bridgen would not have wished that he and Ms. A. should become subjects of interest to the Westminster rumour-mill which can be known for the acuracy of the gossip - it may have been necessary to obscure certain details

It becomes a question then of whether the requirement of Andrew Bridgen and Ms. A. to present their relationship as being entirely innocent and professional had the consequence of giving definition to the gravity of any of the charges that were made subsequently against Mike Hill

Wishing only to be associated with your vote of thanks to @ThursdayWeld whom we must picture as an intrepid explorer with sunlight deflecting from the goggles trekking thanklessly through sheer wastes of time and space whilst being pounded relentlessly by masses of unforgiving verbiage but enduring every agonising error of grammar and syntax to attain the ultimate full stop and plant a flag (it is probably the safest option)

It ought to moisten every nostril in the house

Regarding the consequent exegesis, however, it could be necessary perhaps to add the caveat that being succinct means that it may not capture every intended nuance of the pristine comprehensive original text and that is especially the case with an interpretation by an antagonistic commentator

It is honestly an honour to have @ThursdayWeld being prepared to follow these random meanderings and whimsical musings which begin without any idea of where they are going and any attempt to convey some sense of what is written is far more than the author is able ever to do
