Well, this is positive. This excellent article now available without registering at WebMD.

www.webmd.com/children/news/20210427/transition-therapy-for-transgender-teens-drives-divide

I'm familiar with most of the content, though good to see it all collected here. But didn't know about recent changes in approach in Finland - good to hear how much Scandinavia is in the vanguard for fighting back against some of the bad science on children's treatments for gender dysphoria.

Very good article.

NecessaryScene1 · 02/05/2021 06:58

Can someone explain the significance of the site?

It seems like proper reporting, which immediately suggests it's something quite respectable, but haven't got a feel for the context.

Although, actually, at this stage seeing proper accurate reporting, especially from the US, also makes me think "this can't be mainstream - this has to be some alternative media thing".

Help - cognitive dissonance!

WebMD is a medical site, Necessary. Quite well-known, mainstream and AFAIK reputable.

This is superb reporting, xxyzz. Clear, thoughtful, detailed and balanced, asking important questions, interviewing relevant professionals. I’d recommend this to anyone.

One Reddit subthread for detransitioners currently has more than 17,000 members,

I think the Chanellor pair got this one taken down.

xxyzz · 02/05/2021 08:34

Absolutely.

And so great to see it on a widely-respected, serious medical website.

I think the Chanellor pair got this one taken down.

They tried. r/detrans was briefly banned around the same time as r/GenderCritical and the notorious Bardfinn tried to take over as admin.

It's back up, but with tighter moderation.

Excellent article. Good to finally see some thoughtful, genuine concern from REAL medical professionals working in this area.

highame · 02/05/2021 08:58

It is even more positive that this is from Scandi countries because they have been at the forefront of research. Good stuff

NecessaryScene1 · 02/05/2021 08:59

thoughtful, genuine concern from REAL medical professionals working in this area.

A fair few of the people quoted with concerns have been vocal on this for a while, and you'll find interviews with them on YouTube, eg on Benjamin Boyce's channel or Gender: A Wider Lens. Worth checking out.

(IIRC, Will Malone + Boyce was particularly good).

Thanks Necessary, will have a look.
