Angela Raynor

Angela Raynor is attacking the conservative candidate in Hartlepool because of her ex-husbands job. (He worked in anti corruption in the Caymans for a year apparently)

Following a rebuttal from the conservatives, Angela is now using what the candidate's EX husband said about tax avoidance (which is legal) as a reason to attack the candidate.

If this was the other way round (tories attacking female Labour candidate based on her husband/ex husband) the Labour party would be screaming.

Why does Angela think that it's ok to attack a woman for a) supporting her husband at the time in his job & b) think that a woman should be judged on what her ex husband has said?

She's an absolute idiot.

PronounssheRa · 27/04/2021 07:46

I've been watching this play out, I have to agree Angela is an idiot.

Attacking a political opponent because of her ex husbands job is a shitty thing to do, and even worse when you manage to get a number of the facts wrong. At that point it just becomes a smear campaign.

risefromyourgrave · 27/04/2021 07:56

I think Labour are just shitting themselves that they are about to lose Hartlepool (Labour losing Hartlepool ffs!) and are trying to throw any mud they possibly can in the hope that some of it sticks.

And if indeed they do lose the Hartlepool seat, instead of wondering how the hell they lost one of the reddest seats in the country, they’ll just carry on with the same old strategy.

BentBastard · 27/04/2021 08:01

Agree that AR is not very bright.

However because of her personal history if you say that AR is not very bright you're accused of being snobbish about young mums or working class.

However in ARs case it is simply that she is just not very bright.

LadyFlossieParkingson · 27/04/2021 08:01

She is not a nice person and her tactics show this

She is wrong to attack the candidate based on her husbands job.

AR gets off on sticking the boot in

Erkrie · 27/04/2021 08:01

Yep, she's an idiot. Same old same old.

poshme · 27/04/2021 08:26

Unless there's something more to come, and it turns out that the Tory candidate is secretly a multi millionaire tax dodger, I think you're all right that Angela has just got this stupidly wrong.

Another vote for "She's an idiot." Unpleasant and self righteous too, nasty combination.

highame · 27/04/2021 09:37

Do not judge me. I subscribe to the Spectator so that you don't have to

This article is relevant www.spectator.co.uk/article/labour-s-tax-attack-in-hartlepool-backfires
Unfortunately for Rayner, it appears her opposition research team had not done their homework.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/04/2021 09:40

She's an idiot, charmless and deeply unpleasant, with a dodgy moral compass.

poshme · 27/04/2021 10:05

@highame to be fair to them, the spectator publish some great GC stuff

OP posts:
Erkrie · 27/04/2021 10:06

The spectator does publish some good stuff.

She really is not very clever. Why does the Labour Party keep electing the unelectable as leaders? Why are the women doing the most for women at this crucial, and frankly frightening time, mainly Tories? Liz Truss, Baronesses Nicholson and Nokes and this week Priti Patel (on the non-crime hate speech). Labour just have poor Rosie Duffield as beleaguered, undefended outlier. I know Lord Phil of Brum has done some good stuff in the Lords but where are the left-wing women? There are clever women in the Labour Party - Stella Creasey and Lisa Nandy but on the most important issue for women in half a century they are utterly, utterly useless.
JackieLavertysWeirdVoice · 27/04/2021 10:33

A lot of women have ExHs who turned out be useless arseholes.

I think it's pretty low to hold us responsible for their actions unless we were provably a witting party to wrong-doing at the time of marriage.

Otherwise it just smells like a bit more weird misogyny.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 27/04/2021 10:44

Rules of misogyny

Women are responsible for what men do. (Even when they are ex which probably happened for reasons )

Nightbear · 27/04/2021 10:47

Didn’t she live in the Caymans too? Finance jobs there, even in ‘regulation’, carry a whiff of tax avoidance at the very least.

poshme · 27/04/2021 10:52

Tax avoidance, which is legal.

OP posts:
Nightbear · 27/04/2021 10:57

Yes, it’s legal. That’s why the Caymans does so much business. It’s used to register companies looking to avoid paying tax in places like the U.K.! It’s main business is as a corporate tax haven. Legal does not = right or in the public good.

Nightbear · 27/04/2021 11:07

www.theguardian.com/business/2020/apr/27/clergy-tax-haven-coronavirus-richard-branson

Unlike Denmark, Poland and France our government decided to give tax payer-funded coronavirus bailouts and support packages to companies that operate in the U.K. but are registered in places like the Cayman Islands to avoid paying any tax!

The Conservatives have no problems at all with tax avoidance.

highame · 27/04/2021 11:13

Yes poshme and some good financial stuff.

SunsetBeetch · 27/04/2021 11:14

Oh Angela Raynor is certainly no feminist. That's very clear.

SirVixofVixHall · 27/04/2021 11:16

Agree Angela Raynor is not clever .
Judging a woman on their ex’s past... appalling.

ElizabethTudor · 27/04/2021 11:17

Angela Raynor is bloody awful. This doesn’t surprise me one bit.
