And out of all the lesbians in the world, these 3 make the top 100.

You really couldn't make it up 🙈

(For those who don't know, Ellen Page recently transitioned to become Elliot Page)

Gutted that Nicola Adams didn't make the list:

Fucking ridiculous. So going by TRA logic, Transwomen and Transmen can both be Lesbians?

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 24/04/2021 12:07

Is it bad reading your OP I thought 'well at least 98% are XX women?'

Then thought...are expectations that low?

SapphosRock · 24/04/2021 12:16

Whatever next? Julie Bindel and Kathleen Stock topping the list in trans visibility week?

It's all a bit of a joke now.

CorvusPurpureus · 24/04/2021 12:21

It's not very consistent thinking, is it? Surely if they want to include two male people on the basis that TWAW, that would exclude E Page?

SapphosRock · 24/04/2021 12:23

I think E Page will be swiftly removed once someone points out their mistake!

OP posts:
EndoplasmicReticulum · 24/04/2021 12:23

They've misgendered E Page, surely?

transsloth · 24/04/2021 12:30

eagle-eyed readers will note there are actually 110 women here

So they have listed 108 women in their list of 100 lesbians. Grin

NotBadConsidering · 24/04/2021 12:31

You missed another male.

They’ve simultaneously included males, women who are devout TWAW followers, all while dead naming Page.

These people can’t even follow their own logic.

aliasundercover · 24/04/2021 12:38

No Nicola Adams? That's ridiculous.

Unless ... how many of these visible lesbians are openly GC?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/04/2021 12:46

You missed another male.

I can see three other males.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/04/2021 12:47

I count 5 males on the list.

Boadicea2 · 24/04/2021 12:50

You missed Christine Burns & Emily Brothers

NotBadConsidering · 24/04/2021 12:56

If, generally speaking, one (the royal one) would describe oneself as fluid, could one be a lesbian in the (aspiring) politics category, but not be included in the acting category? Just wondering what how rigid the criteria are.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 24/04/2021 12:59

They've misgendered Dr Ronx too.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 24/04/2021 13:08

"A writer covering issues including political and sexual liberty"

Bit unclear. "Sexual liberty" could mean anything from fighting to destigmatise sex outside marriage to fighting to destigmatise watching torture for sexual enjoyment.

I'm not exaggerating there. Man in the UK was recently sentenced for downloading video material of FGM (i.e. female ^children) being performed.

OneEpisode · 24/04/2021 13:16

At least one more misgendering Kate Tempest first rose to fame when she won KT uses they.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 24/04/2021 13:20

The artist formerly known as Kate Tempest has changed their name to Kae, too.

hallouminatus · 24/04/2021 13:34

They also misgendered and deadnamed Kae Tempest.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 24/04/2021 13:52

Are there any 'vanilla' women on that list? You all seem to be pointing out more and more who have chosen to be 'other'

SapphosRock · 24/04/2021 14:07

What strikes me from that list is they are mainly women in their 40s and 50s. Rose Ellen Dix is probably the youngest and I believe she's mid 30s.

Nice for them that they were able to come out as lesbians in more tolerant and accepting times.

Now there is much pressure for young women to identify as queer or pan and lesbian is seen as exclusionary. The writer even says as much in the opening paragraphs.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 24/04/2021 14:09

I'm absolutely certain there are lots, Samphire but due to their poor success in abiding by the preferred pronouns of some very high profile individuals, I wouldn't like to trust the writers' assumed pronouns for all of the rest!

P.S Clare Balding, Megan Rapinoe and Sandi Toksvig are included.

ValancyRedfern · 24/04/2021 14:15

Jane Fae very much campaign's for the legalisation of the most degrading and extreme pornography. So that is indeed what is meant by 'sexual liberty' and 'online censorship' here.
Erkrie · 24/04/2021 14:17

Ewww. That is quite a line up.

CalamityJaneDoe · 24/04/2021 16:43

Nice. I’m going to treat myself to not looking at that list, today, seeing those three.

It wasn’t 10 years ago we were mourning the loss of the lesbian bar. I never thought I’d be mourning the loss of the bloody descriptor itself!

HeirloomTomato · 24/04/2021 17:00

Is this from a while ago? If not, they’ll be crucified for ‘dead-naming’ Page...
