Has anyone seen this? I don’t like the way Sky did this at all. Maya was spot on though.

”Trans people in this country are being vilified for something that is a natural, hormonal development of the brain in the womb, it's no different being transgender as it is to having green eyes or brown hair or the colour of your skin."

When you resort to unproven and unlikely theories to back up your position, you’re on very thin ice. Why would Sky allow a lie within a quote without challenging it.

Biscuitsanddoombar · 24/04/2021 11:38

Sky TV are stonewall champions and in their top 100 employers list

persistentwoman · 24/04/2021 19:19

If Sky are Stonewall champions then despite being a news agency they will have to obey Stonewall's anti women agenda - or they'd lose their champion status.
So much for an independent press.

GNCQ · 24/04/2021 19:26

Haha omg yeah having a penis and the ability to get a female human pregnant is exactly like being a woman who has blue/brown/green eyes...

GNCQ · 24/04/2021 19:27

The "Stonewall Champion" award should be worth nothing anymore.

Mollyollydolly · 24/04/2021 20:40

Maya was brilliant. The only comfort I take from it is that most viewers new to the subject would think they were watching Brass Eye (as someone said on Twitter) .. you could hear the fear in the reporters voice at being perceived as transphobic. Still wonder how we got here, saying sex is real is a blasphemy on a massive mainstream news org, not some dark corner of the internet. Stonewall have so much to answer for.

This is such a false equivalence...if trans was like these physical characteristics, why the need for hormones and surgery? And what about the people who de-transition? It doesn't make sense.
butwhatcanwedo · 24/04/2021 21:27

persistent I completely agree!

I hadn’t seen that article, only the interview on the news. So much wrong there.

Yes false equivalence is it exactly.

A better equivalence would be being a brown eyed woman who wears bright blue coloured contact lenses (for whatever reasons).

Beautiful of course, and perfectly valid, but eye colour is a born state. You can't simply declare yourself to be born with bright blue eyes when you're dependent on Vision Express to provide them.

Brass Eye was exactly what it was like! The close up on Maya twisting her hands as she basically said "eppur si muove".

Honestly, it was North Korea levels of broadcasting. Embarrassing. Lord alone knows what your average civilian took from that. Certainly not that Maya is the bonkers one.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/04/2021 22:26

It was shocking.

Terranean · 24/04/2021 23:44

This is a video by Maya . Her appeal is on Tuesday!
I dig a little for her today. Maybe you can too.

UppityPuppity · 25/04/2021 08:12

Completely.

Every brain cell has male or female DNA depending on if you are male or female. A male body can only have a male brain.

There are no thoughts, feelings, desires, opinions that are exclusively male or female.

A female brain in a male body is Mary Shelly territory and belongs in science fiction, not science.

The fact that supposedly intelligent people believe this utter nonsense, including that there are 6 sexes, is frightening.

EventuallyDistracted · 25/04/2021 14:20

Just seen this on their FB feed. The comments are overwhelmingly supportive of her, either agreeing with her position or agreeing that she should be allowed to speak freely on this matter.

StellaAndCrow · 25/04/2021 21:57

Strong head-tilt game from the other interviewee.

UppityPuppity · 26/04/2021 08:28

Strong head-tilt game from the other interviewee.

Could someone explain this to me? I see it all the time when people spout such nonsense. Is it an involuntary response when one knows one is talking crap or is it to compensate because the brain has completely ceased to compute?

Nonmaquillee · 26/04/2021 08:39

MF was great. Clear and precise. Please God, help her win.

The interviewee spouted absolute unscientific claptrap, it was really embarrassing to watch.

InsideNumberNine · 26/04/2021 08:46

Can someone explain what legal rights people with a GRC don't have?!

And it completely changes the argument when you decline to mention that only a tiny percentage of the trans population have a GRC, or feel they should have one for that matter!

InsideNumberNine · 26/04/2021 08:48

I also thought Maya was fantastic. Sex matters, we just need to keep bringing it back to that point.

Tibtom · 26/04/2021 09:01

Head tilting generally means they have switched off and they don't feel what you say is worth listening to because they know best. I see this in other contexts.

HecatesCatsInFancyHats · 26/04/2021 09:07

The judge ruled her views were "not worthy of respect in a democratic society".

I always think this is a bit rich. Censorship in the name of democracy Confused Appeal is tomorrow 🤞

Has anyone seen an explanation from those who believe that TWAW to explain this? However scientific/ unscientific the explanation is. I've never understood why, if it's proven that something happens to some males (exposure to hormones/ particular feelings/ etc) is that not proof that the thing (hormones/ feelings...) can also be a male thing, rather than exclusively female?

I'm not sure I've worded that well, so to explain I'll use an unrelated example. Most people who get breast cancer are female, however a small number of males also get breast cancer. Assuming this was applied to whether TWAW, the GC explanation is that all people have the potential to get breast cancer, although women have a higher risk. The opposing view would be anyone who gets breast cancer must be a woman.

I'm very definitely GC, but like to understand the other side, and I'm really struggling with finding anything to explain this part of the viewpoint.
