How many pregnant “people” are we talking about?

I’ve seen lots of things on Twitter, about the wording: “pregnant people can now have a birth partner” or “pregnant people can get the Covid vaccine”. The word woman will be eradicated soon and I’m fuming.

My question is.... how many people are we talking about here? Per year, how many people in the uk that are/were women now identify as men and also get pregnant? Is it a handful or are we talking thousands here?

No one is trying to eradicate the word "woman" - it is used in pregnancy services across the country thousands of times a day - it's all fine.

The only thing that has happened is that when talking to, or about, a group of pregnant or potentially pregnant people which might or does include some trans men or non binary people, then more inclusive language is preferred. That's all it is.

RedDeerRunning · 23/04/2021 18:59

Pretty much none. But that's not the group of people being pandered to here. None of this is about improving things for women. It's the feelings of the XY brigade that Stonewall bangs the drum for.

Ok, and why can’t they say “...pregnant women, trans men and non binary...”

They can, but "pregnant people" is quicker.
PurgatoryOfPotholes · 23/04/2021 19:03

But if it's just about length, "pregnant women" is even quicker. Confused

2021ismyyear · 23/04/2021 19:04

I’m in the minority a lot with various things in life but you know what I just get on with it! I don’t moan and protest and try to make my minority group.

I don’t get why we are bending over backwards for a handful of people.

Of course they are trying to eradicate the word women. Women = adult female human. The ones who give birth. Why on earth should language change for the very, very small percentage who have decided they are men really, but still happy to give birth?

ListeningQuietly · 23/04/2021 19:05

Only women get pregnant

any person with a GRC who has become pregnant has broken the terms

Only Women get Pregnant

binary is sexist misogyny and had no relevance to sex life

Only Women get Pregnant

2021ismyyear · 23/04/2021 19:06

I really worry for my kids. I bloody hope this language doesn’t make its way in to school. Can you imagine telling a kid that men can get pregnant too!

As is pregnant women, and biologically accurate to boost.

2021ismyyear · 23/04/2021 19:09

Maybe we should make new words up based on genetic code. You can’t change that after all. Sorry for being annoyed. I can cope with the addition of new words but not at the cost of the word “woman”.

I’ll believe it’s inclusive when it happens to males as much as females

GappyValley · 23/04/2021 19:10

I still cannot get a straight answer to the obvious question to me, which is if someone has such clear gender dysphoria as to not consider themselves a woman any more, why are they then going through probably the most womanly thing imaginable?

And how are they not triggering themselves hourly with growing boobs and a bump and swollen genitalia, when they are on such a hair trigger that the word ‘woman’ causes them a mental health crisis?

FrankButchersDickieBow · 23/04/2021 19:10

It should be women and other pregnant people.

The 'pregnant people' want to show that not just women get pregnant, so why is it not okay for women to want acknowledgement that they are also pregnant?

This is what annoys me. Why are women not allowed to have their sex acknowledged in inclusive language, but everyone else who identifies as another gender, must be adhered to.

FrankButchersDickieBow · 23/04/2021 19:11

I have explained that very clumsily, but I hope you get the jist

LadyBuffOfBuffdonia · 23/04/2021 19:12

I remember when the pregnant transman was a headline. I hadn't followed the news closely and in the few brief seconds whilst the article opened I remember thinking what a big deal for science it was; I remember feeling trepidation and awe for the brave new world. Like 9/11 I'd remember the moment forever.

Then I found out it was actually a woman anyway. Felt pretty silly I hadn't clocked it because of course an actual man giving birth would be top news and dominate the headlines- not just silly clickbate.

Prostate Cancer

Men and other people
funny
its just Men

2021ismyyear · 23/04/2021 19:14

This is true. So if I’m a male and I now identify as a female I can buy “condoms for people that have a penis”. Will I be able to find them next to the blusher and perfumes in shops?

Are testicular cancer tests for “people with balls”?

OP posts:
quiteathome · 23/04/2021 19:15

I don't quite get it.

There should be no word for men either.

Therefore for mens things it should then be people who go for a prostate exam.

People are going to be really confused in the future as nobody will really know what they need.

2021ismyyear · 23/04/2021 19:18

Oooh I just looked it up on the nhs website:

“Testicular cancer is a relatively rare type of cancer, accounting for just 1% of all cancers that occur in men.

Around 2,300 men are diagnosed with testicular cancer each year in the UK”

So we don't use the word "woman" because there might be a transman in the group? How is that not erasing the word woman? Hmm
ListeningQuietly · 23/04/2021 19:18

I have a real life friend who "transitioned"
M to F
full surgery at age 18
I've never known them as other than their female identity
but they have never hidden their birth identity
AND
Prostate screening now beckons
because
biology is real

I think that ship may have sailed OP 😬

Exactly. It’s all bollocks.
2021ismyyear · 23/04/2021 19:20

Naughty nhs using the word “men”! What if you were a man but now identify as female but still have testicles.

I propose we use “ball havers” from now on.
