Thames Valley PCC Vote

We have four candidates standing for PCC in Thames Valley. Labour, Conservative, Lib Dem and Independent.

The Lib Dem guy sounds harmless enough but his various statements are a bit incoherent and well he’s Lib Dem and they are bonkers so I just can’t.

The Independent is ex policeman, he’s written a book on policing and the blurb on Amazon has to be seen to be believed, a brief quote ‘I bloody love police officers. I worship the ground they walk upon. They are the most incredible people to grace the Earth. Each one of them is Kind, compassionate,’ and I can’t continue without vomiting
So absolutely no way am I voting for him

Conservative candidate, his priorities listed are burglaries, robberies and car crime as well as dealing with complex problems of domestic abuse and drug related crime. Not sure I’d put burglaries, robberies and car crime as my top concerns Hmm he does talk about domestic abuse and risk of sexual assaults but it’s clearly not a priority. I asked him his definition of women, no reply. His picture puts me in mind of Matt Hancock Envy . I’m not a conservative voter but they aren’t telling women trying to protect their rights not to vote for them.

Labour candidate is a woman, focusing on VAWG came close in last PCC election apparently. Sounds sensible. I’ve emailed her to ask for her definition of a woman, no reply yet. Ordinarily voting for her would be obvious but Labour don’t want women who don’t believe men can magically change into women to vote for them

I think I’m going to be spoiling my ballot again Sad I really want to vote for the Labour candidate but it feels like voting for an abuser.

Anyone else in TV got any insights into the candidates?

There is a GRARG meeting tonight to discuss responses on the question of sex from the PCC candidates across the country. There was a project to write to all candidates to gain their views and the results will be tonight. There will be blog/updates for those unable to attend the meeting.

Well done for writing to your candidates about this - I did too and had one fairly reasonable response and one unsurprising response.

Thanks PiglingBlandlll I wont be able to watch the zoom meeting live but I’ll look for the updates.

I don’t remember scrutinising candidates last time, I presume I voted for the Labour candidate as back then I can’t imagine who else I’d have voted for.

Thanks for this.

Was anyone able to listen in? Did any PCC candidate provide a definition? I’ve still heard nothing. I think I’ll be spoiling my ballot with #LabourLosingWomen and I won’t be reminding the other adults in the house about their postal votes (they would vote Labour if I did my female support function thing of reminding them to vote but if I don’t remind them they are unlikely to get around to it in time)

The Labour candidate was twittering only yesterday about PCC candidates being male-dominated.

Might be worth asking her about how she would define a female candidate.

ThamesValleyMNer · 23/04/2021 16:42

I have asked her and she hasn’t replied Hmm

I really would like to vote for her, there’s 4 potential votes for her in my household (which I know is negligible in the grand scheme of things). And one of the non females in the house might get themselves organised to fill in their vote if I don’t remind them so she may get 1 or 2 of those but I doubt it.
