Has the GENDER question changed on the Govt Covid test reporting site?

I don't know if I am remembering it wrong. I have been filling the online reporting form out for my DC for weeks. I have got to the point of doing it on autopilot. I am pretty sure that when it came to the "sex" question, they always asked for "gender" instead. I remember the irritation.

This morning, when I filled it out, there was no mention of gender. Or sex for that matter. It asked:

"Which of the following is on your medical records?

Male
Female
Neither"

I am 99% sure that wasn't the question I answered when I last filled this form in on Sunday.

Anyone else notice this change? Or was it ever thus and I have a false memory?

I crossed them all out and wrote 'none'. The nurse checking the paperwork asked if it was 'one of these' gesturing at the area of 'indeterminate, non-binary' and I said 'I don't have a gender, which is a made up social construct. I have a sex, which is female, but it didn't ask that, so I'm not ticking it'. She looked at me like I might bite her.

Good for you. Hopefully you've got her thinking.

@nothingcomestonothing

The consent form for the covid vaccine I got at work had the following options:

Gender (circle selected option): Male Female Indeterminate Non-Binary Prefer not to say

An actual medical professional had an issue with that? I despair.

She looked terrified! Maybe she thought I was trying to trick her into agreeing with Wrongthink?

As an aside, if we're only having 4 options for gender, what's the difference between 'indeterminate' and 'non-binary'? And for a bonus woke point, why does a consent form for a medical procedure need to know if I'm 'one of these', what possible difference could it make? Confused

Enough4me · 27/04/2021 23:25

I'm getting so confused. I just used to tick sex:female. I may decide to have no gender either, or decide my gender is a horse because if a man can say he's a woman and he is, then it's my right to be a horse.

GreyhoundG1rl · 27/04/2021 23:27

It's all nonsense. If one of the options is "prefer not to say" then the data is meaningless and shouldn't be collected in the first place.
If they need to know, they can't offer an opt out.

NiceGerbil · 28/04/2021 00:36

Isn't it bonkers that at least some of the effort on loads of health orgs is going towards worrying over / tinkering with the sex questions on their stuff :/

BadGherkin · 28/04/2021 00:58

It doesn’t solve anything to ask what is on your medical records, though, does it?

Someone who transitioned/ids as the opposite sex is just going to put the sex they feel they have become.

Maybe they need to have a “Both” option, too....

GNCQ · 28/04/2021 19:44

Surely the right question should be "what is your sex on your birth certificate?"
I'm sure the Eddie Izzards of the world have "female" now and then on their medical record for the fun of it.

Yes I noticed the change from one week to the next when reporting. Made me laugh but also very angry. I've never seen a gender/sex question worded like that before.
