You can just about read it from this photo on twitter. There's a opinion piece at the bottom from Baroness Nicholson talking about the confusion of the Equality Act trap.

Sorry rushing to get children out the door. Why does challenging the incorrect statement of law put the fear in me?

toffeebutterpopcorn · 22/04/2021 08:45

Because we are constantly told that doing so is the very same thing as being an actual nazi.

I got a very basic ‘we can’t close your account from here, this is the link you need to follow’ reply. Few more words but that’s all it said it didn’t address my reasons at all, not even to tell me they think I’m wrong

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/04/2021 09:00

I imagine they have had quite a few complaints with the national media coverage.

OhHolyJesus · 22/04/2021 09:12

I've had long conversations with centre Parcs and M&S. haven't spent money with them since and have no intention of doing so. I returned gifts bought there and direct any well meaning relatives to go elsewhere.

Of course the changing rooms have been shut for about a year due to COVID and everyone has been ordering online but still, if you spend your money with then they won't feel it in their pockets.

Whilst I can appreciate that you may feel some trepidation about this news, I would like to inform you that John Lewis aims to be an inclusive business. This is to ensure all of our customers are welcome to use whichever fitting room makes them feel the most comfortable.

Trepidation? Oh do fuck off JL. You don't know the meaning of the word 'inclusive'.

I would also use the men's changing room whilst wearing my highest heels (would dust them off) and most feminine dress. I imagine there are no spy-cams in their changing rooms for one....but the truth is though I won't shop there either, not even online, not even for sheets and towels.

I would hate to see redundancies of their mostly female staff, but I refuse to give them a penny to their profits whilst they ignore our very basic needs for dignity and privacy.

I think the pandemic has accelerated all this.
I went to a national trust place over Easter and they had shut the men’s loo and made the women’s unisex, blaming covid. I really don’t see how having fewer spaces helps reduce transmission.
They had made no other changes at all - cubicles with gaps under and above and shared sink area. Absolutely hated going in there with my three small daughters.

It’s also a bit contradictory isn’t it - you can imagine I feel ‘trepidation’ and yet you want ‘all your customers’ to feel comfortable using the changing rooms? Well how can I if I feel trepidation?

toffeebutterpopcorn · 22/04/2021 10:41

How can it be inclusive and for comfort if it is knowingly scaring off a fair chunk of it’s women (and some men) customers. This is actually pandering to the social media warriors.

If you don’t actually believe this is all about jumping on the bandwagon in the hope of getting ££££ then you are are daft.

butwhatcanwedo I saw on Twitter a thread highlighting the same issue at a National Trust property. The photos of the toilets, which had been made mixed sex, showed clearly the gaps at the bottom and top. After receiving complaints and twitter attention about the safeguarding and privacy issues, the National Trust property at Stowe managed to put in place portaloos for the men to use, which meant the women’s toilets could revert back to their previous status. It would be worth complaining to the NT if it is a different place that you went to.
