This was published in the latest Holyrood magazine.
As a woman in Scotland I feel politically homeless....😫

How can a serious political party be this clueless? How do they think they will plan for services?

Diaryofamadwoman · 17/04/2021 09:54

What happened to the party of science and reason

toffeebutterpopcorn · 17/04/2021 09:56

They are mental! Whatever happened to save the environment, save the planet?

When we sent in our responses to the GRA consultation, a huge amount of mine was taken up with the meaning of birth certificates and their status as a passport to human rights in so much of the world. This is not just a problem that restricted to LMIC but is a substantial issue in parts of the USA.

Chesterton's fence - why do people think we need them? What do they facilitate? Will your proposal improve matters or open up a mass of unintended or intended consequences?

And of course the usual suspects are saying that the relevant part of the declaration is being misunderstood / misread / taken out of context, and what it really means is.... All very familiar. Orgs really need to start reading and understanding what they sign up to support (of course in this case it is likely that the Greens do support this).

ArabellaScott · 17/04/2021 11:37

The greens are finished.

Robert Wintemute appears to be potentially a very good ally to gender critical women and those who support sex-based rights. Very glad to see him raising his head again. His personal credentials, as well as being a person who was involved in writing the Yogyakarta Principles look impeccable.

Sunlight, sunlight and more sunlight!

Grr, what is wrong with holyrood.com's links?!

Grr, what is wrong with holyrood.com's links?!
The comma - I've no idea why they've started to break the conventions for urls but it's a pest.
Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 17/04/2021 17:34

Guy Ingerson is taking the credit for the policy. Unbelievably, he has said that Robert Wintemute who DRAFTED THE PRINCIPLES hasn't read them properly and also that they don't say what is written but mean something entirely different (I think this is called queering language). Oh, and he's managed a spot of racism and using the DSD community for full TRA bingo.

I see he misleadingly quoted only the first part of article 31 (the part which actually sounds quite reasonable).

He quotes:

Ensure that official identity documents only include personal information that is relevant, reasonable and necessary as required by the law for a legitimate purpose,

The end of the sentence reads:

and thereby end the registration of the sex and gender of the person in identity documents such as birth certificates, identification cards, passports and driver licences, and as part of their legal personality;

I see he misleadingly quoted only the first part of article 31

If selective quoting were the only way to buttress a POV, I would:
be deeply concerned about that POV;
reconsult Nolan principles of public life if I hadn't seen them for a while;
reflect long and hard on the meaning of intellectual and political integrity.

Lorna Slater was asked about this today on BBC. She's denying that it is in there: I suppose that the manifesto does not say "we will remove sex on birth certs" it does, however, say they will implement a set of principles which entail removing sex on birth certs. It's pure sophistry!

These people are so duplicitous.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 18/04/2021 19:02

She stated on Twitter:

Our manifesto is here and it says no such thing. That’s weird conspiracy theory stuff. t.co/Mgua9LYcO8

Someone replied with an image of the relevant part of the Manifesto and an image of the relevant part of the Yogyakarta Principles. I don't think there was a reply to that.

What is it with all of these orgs signing up without reading to dodgy documents written by random fringe groups with no standing?

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 18/04/2021 20:45

She is either incredibly stupid or she thinks the voters are!

I loved this, BTW, from Susan Dalgety. Captured the hubris perfectly!

Thelnebriati · 18/04/2021 21:06

I think a lot of these examples we see of people not reading the document they signed, support or oppose are caused by diffused responsibility; everyone assumes its someone else's job to read it.

NearlyAlwaysInsane · 18/04/2021 21:07

Oh dear. Scotland (or at least the Green Party....) going down the drain with the rest of the woke brigade.
